I need to get my chrono out. I only have 18” barrels but have both ammos.

I don’t believe your 2550 with 175s out a 16”. NFW

What are you not believing the 6.5 speeds or the 308?

I can actually sling 175s in Lapua SRP brass at 2600 chief with snipers hide starting loads but you do you

It just seems in these caliper wars , people choose the hottest handloads for their favored cartridge and the weakest downloaded factory ammo for the competitor

Like do you even know me ? It's killing me right now even admitting I shoot a 308...

I wanted more speed and was actually really surprised by my results but feel free to test yourself.

My theory is the pressure curve is steeper with the 6.5cm. it just hits pressure faster

Any fellow AT thumbhole users rocking a shorty 6.5? Seems proof only offers .308 for prefit's in 16.5"

Currently have a 18” 6.5 cm installed on my AT. Plan on doing some velocity testing tomorrow. Thinking the Prime 130gr rounds will do well on velocity. Will post results tomorrow.

I have an 18.5" 6.5CM? I shot the 20" 308 barrel it came with and found myself preferring the 6.5. However I am probably going to sell the 18.5", pick up a long shlong 26" 6.5CM barrel, and build a lighter platform to be my short handy rig.

I had a 16.5" 6.5CM barrel in my SRS, and wanted a couple extra inches for this. A little extra velocity goes a long way when a gentle breeze is 15-20mph here. Im not sure most people, or targets, would notice the difference between a 16" 6.5CM or 16" 308 <400 yards.

Has this been done already?
On the ATXC probably not as they promise to come out with the larger bolt head eventually (holding breath in utter excitement) and you can’t buy spare bolts for them yet

I have spares for my AT rifles. One is getting finished up at Black Canyon currently with a 300 WSM barrel

I’m sure you can mod the factory ATXC bolt and the 6.5 barrel is the same across the other platforms. I believe AI says it void’s warranty if you do that though just fyi

Black canyon opening up the face and doing the barrel work? What length are you going with? I just hate the availability of bolts.

Yes. The bolt is done and has been for months. I wanted heavy varmint Bartlein to add a bit more breach strength and weight to the rifle. That finally came in. Will be finished at 24” and have my 338 ultra Gen II hanging off the end

I bought two spare bolts from Euro last year when they did a run of them. Both my 2014 AT are large firing pin. Now I’ll have a magnum bolt and a small firing pin .473 bolt as a spare

Unless you get lucky and are able to find one for sale you’ll have to wait until another run comes out. Typically you’d see Euro, MH and Mountic all get bolts at the same time from that run. Once they sell there gone for another year or two. I have yet to see a spare ATXC bolt come out

Let us know how this turns out - I have some parts collecting dust, might follow this route as well.

Yes, altering the bolt 100% voids your warranty. Tom told me so verbatim when discussing bolt availability for the XC to have one sent out to BCC to be opened up for the PRC. Waiting for secondary bolts on the XC is likely an exercise in futility, as is with all things AI that they promise in another year or so lol.

I was talking with @trophyhunter about the 300 WSM as he’s been running one for a while.

I’ll be using the magnum bolt
Bartlein 24” Heavy Varmint 1:10
Accurate 7 round mag
Lapua brass
H4350
CCI 250
178 or 200 ELDX

I’m having the chamber Saami spec. That’s what TH runs and suggested and what I came up with when talking with Fritz.

The biggest dilemma with the setup will be the mag length limitation. Which is where the Saami spec chamber comes in. This will be a long range deer killer. I’m good with pushing 178 ELDX out of it. Not looking for super heavy/long bullets. I’m running 178 ELDX at 2600 out of my 308. Hoping to see 2900-3000 out of the WSM.

I’ll for sure share the rifle and journey here.

Believe me I’m not counting on it. I have no interest in another ATX or ATXC. Thats one of the current benefits of a tricked out ATX Gen 3 right now. You can get bolts if needed. That and paying less than 2/3 the price

If I decided to get another AI it be another AXMC

A photo of a rarely seen and never cloned L96 part. Brackets can often be found, but not the mount specific to the L96. This is a clone mount I made for a friend.

Part of the STIC package for the late-life L96 and L115. Supposed to be used in conjunction with the L17A1 scope, the military designation for the original S&B PM2 3-12x50 scope with parallax adjustment.

Was finally able to get out to the range after having my 7th shoulder surgery on my left shoulder. I took out the AXMC and shot 308 and 6.5CM. I'm not ready for the recoil of the 300WM or 300NM yet and certainly not the 338LM.

View attachment IMG_6220.jpg My new hardware, first 5rds of 168FGMM at 100yds. Then the 6.5CM 147 Hornady. Pretty happy after not being able to shoot for 6 months.

How dare you post a bunch of pics when none of them is a rifle!

Just think if you weren’t wrong handed….

You could have shot whatever caliber you wanted today 😁👍

Did your orthopedic surgeon advise properly you on shooting?

They often conflate load bearing with impulse (not many remember or are cognizant of the difference) - these kinds of joints and their fasteners aren’t really meant for high impulses, and really serve more of a "I can get by in life" function.

So while they may “advise” you on shooting being “okay,” well - you get the idea.

Do not accept an "I think" but rather a "this prosthesis is rated for" recommendation.

Think impact hammer vs. regular drill.
