“Texas Plinking” 1 MOA/1K Yard Challenge Videos

If you listen to the shooters talking you’ll see most have only shot that far once or twice (or never) and many have just got their rifles and got into long range shooting

All the disciplines of shooting are acquired over time which shows between shooters in this series.

For Fclass guys this challenge wouldn’t be much different than a match or practice setting. Not that they necessarily will do any better but a 10 shot string at 1 moa at 1000 yards is their goal when loading and practicing anyways.
My favorite guy so far has been a guy with a RH action but LH port, so you can load and fix malfunctions without coming off the gun.

Then proceeds to come off the gun after every shot....

That’s me! I’m shooter #2, Scott with the Tikka. Wind was 15-20 mph that day from about 8:00, gusting to 25+. Brandon is a great guy, his mom is a hoot. Cool range, I enjoyed the challenge. Other shooters were good guys. First guy’s zero was low, he fixed it then hit both plates before he left.

I want to sign up. I’m not far from him. Would like my 12 yo son to try as well with his Valkyrie but he needs a little more practice and long range dope. I’ve followed his YT since early in his channel.
Good luck with that. I tried to contact him several times, no reply, so I gave up.

I literally just said I was in the most recent video. I emailed him and actually ran into him in town, he and I live near each other.
Well then lets move to

"I tried to contact him several times, no reply, so I gave up"

Nice shooting considering the wind! Normally I wouldn't even make the trip to the range if that was in the forecast. I'll be making the trip there in a couple of weeks and hoping for a calmer day!

That week we had fairly calm winds, 5-10 mph but when I got up Saturday morning the flag on my house was standing at attention! I knew it was going to be tough at the range. His range is wide open other than right at the shooter (protected by trees and trucks) and right at the target. Between shooter and target is lower than both so our bullets are much higher than the grass on the ground. Thankfully his new berm was fluffy, dry and visible so I was able to spot my misses. I initially dialed for 1.7Mil of wind but first shot was 1Mil right. I held that to get the impact. Never could connect on the 5", even after recording a shot 10 rounds at it and scared it good, but still no impacts. My reticle almost fully covers the 5" target. May think about changing scopes for more magnification and thinner reticle lines or a floating dot.

Either way, it was a lot of fun, glad I did it. Super thankful to my buddy Chad at Custom Reloads of Dallas for his help in load development. He's a great guy so if any of y'all are in need of precision ammo, hit him up.

Seems like I remember once or twice that the easiest way to reach Brandon is on IG. I don't have IG but I also don't have a way to compete in the contest. The time needed, the time needed on a range to get out several hundred yards, etcetera. But I enjoy the show and root for each person. We can talk about it but that is different than doing it. Reminds me of what Mike Tyson said.

"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."

I think you're right about IG. I don't have IG but emailed him a couple times and got lucky and ran into him personally. He was a cool guy. His mom and a couple other from his inner circle were there and they were all super nice, fun people.

I’m sure he only gets a couple thousand emails per day of people wanting to be on YouTube. @SRW that was great shooting. I didn’t watch the whole video just watched far enough to see how you did-impressive. Looks like fun! Way too far for this north Idaho boy especially when I can go 15 minutes behind my house and shoot out to beyond 1,000.

That .5 MOA target was mocking you!

Anyway, good luck at the 10 rd group at 1K.

We shall see how you did, eventually. So, mums the word until then.

I watched this one before and again just now.

"6.5x47 Lapoooa magnum". 😄

And I'll bet bucks he had a short action 700 too.
I think he effectively trolled us all. Pretended like he didn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground, then pounded that 10” plate like it insulted his momma.

Great shooting! It was a pleasure to watch you nail it on shot 3 and that was just unlucky on the .5MoA target.

Saw part 2. A bit hard to tell, but looks like you did very well considering the wind. The first sighter shot was dead nuts! I'm hoping sending 230 gr pills downrange makes it a little more consistent when I have my go at it. Do you have any tips?

Good run at the 10 round group, Scott. You should shoutout your buddy’s company. He’s obviously spinning up some good ammo.

Also, I know 6.5 creed isn’t known for heavy recoil, but your gun looks like it shoots really softly.

What brake are you running and do you know how heavy your gun is?

Thanks! I was pretty confident I'd hit the 10", hopeful on the 5" and had no idea how I would do on paper if I got that opportunity. Was cool to shoot paper at that distance, probably the only time I'll ever do it.

Chad at Custom Reloads of Dallas is a good friend, he helped me a ton preparing for this challenge, but also anytime I have any other shooting question he's always happy to help.

The muzzle break is called Little Chubby, was designed by a SWAT sniper in small town IL. I ran a search and not sure if it's still in production. I think the gun is about 12 lbs.

I like that into interview.

What you got here that looks short?

Yep, it is. Just regular old Bushnell glass. No I don't reload I just shoot some shit I buy from a guy I know.

Well, let's see how you do.

Bang. Bang. CLANG! Beautiful. Well done.

HAHAHA! Doesn't have to be fancy to be good! I under estimated the wind but corrected quickly. Never did hit the 5" even off camera. That thing is small!

After action report. I did better than expected, but not as well as I’d hoped.

The Kestrel had the wind at the firing line at 2 to 6 Mph with gusts to around 10. The Vortex range finder had it at .3 Mil left and my wind dope chart had .5 L for a full value 5 Mph wind. Knowing most everyone misses right from previous videos I dialed in .6 Mil left. I wasn’t surprised I missed right, I was surprised at how far right the first shot impacted. I adjusted an additional .8 Mil left and made the second round hit. I didn’t expect a hit on the second shot as I was so far right. I just thought I’d get somewhere close and hit on the 3rd or 4th shot. A very nice result!

I believe the wind picked up after the 2nd shot and I didn’t notice or account for it so once again started missing right on the 5” target. Although I was adjusting left in between shots the wind apparently was still increasing. I did finally get close, but never did get a hit. The wind is the determining factor and I obviously need some more work in that area.

Ryan Cheney was there and obviously the favorite from the start. Very nice guy and willing to share his knowledge and experience having competed and won in ELR. He gave everyone there one of his EndGame adjustable rear bags – a very nice bonus for the rest of us!

Overall I’m happy with how it went. Great group of guys to shoot and shoot the shit with.

Makinchips208, myself, and a few others were shooting various steel targets out to 1,000 recently. We had a standard ipsc steel at 1,000. I think everyone hit the torso. I wanted to see if I could hit the head, and sent at least 10 rounds at it without hitting the head. It was about half moa, but about all I did was scare it. That is a TINY target at that range. Great shooting @HemiPowrd!

Well done. And yes, the wind will mock you. But I also imagine you get some wind in Co and that helps with training, accounting for change in altitude.

I did train in the wind here in CO, but it just doesn't normally change as fast and as drastically as it did the day we shot. I can normally get off 10 shots in the CO wind at the range I train at with about the same amount of wind for all 10. Impacts will change over a 10 shot string just not normally that much. I think we had a fairly typical Texas wind day based on the other episodes I've seen so probably not any more difficult than most other shooters have experienced. I just need to seek out more adverse wind conditions to train in.

Good point about the altitude difference. It's one thing to know about it, but another thing to experience it.

Firstly, amazing shooting. Congrats on the second round hit with that exceptional set-up.

What was the altitude difference between where you shoot in Co versus the location in Tx? Do you manage to get into competitions much or just having fun plinking steel?

Congratulations again

I would also wonder how much a change of humidity might have an effect on aerodynamic jump, as well as lower altitude meaning thicker air.

Thank you! Density altitude is typically around 7000' to 8000' where I normally shoot and if I remember correctly it was just over 3000' when we shot the challenge. Elevation was .3 mil more at the lower altitude.

I have shot and won some shorter range competitions at the local range, but nothing long range yet. I hope to get into some longer range / ELR type competitions, but realize I have some work yet to do with reading the wind.
