that is esp true in the university med world. like maybe 70% foreign?
Now that you mentioned it...
But I stand by my assumption on cheap degrees flooding our medical industry.
Gotta contextualize...
A. Clinical Tracks
B. Research Tracks
C. Both
1. University Hospital Medical Training Programs (Clinical / Research)
--- Usually top notch
2. University - Affiliated, Community Hospital Medical Training Programs (Clinical / rarely Research)
--- Usually good enough due to size of center; caveat - "affiliation" can be dodgy and frequently in name only, same issues with 3.
3. Community Hospital Medical Training Programs (Clinical)
--- Residency Training Programs are often diploma mills established as a profit mechanism for A) milking Medicare B) securing cheap labor in the guise of training C) artificially improving hospital ratings. Exceptions to the rule are the Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic systems (among others), which are private, corporate profiteering behemoths (the Cleveland Clinic system has its own Resident Training Programs in its various branches BUT favors recruiting graduates of University systems into their Fellowship programs, not their own graduates - makes you wooonder why)
There's also the entire M.D. and D.O. thing, but we're not going there.
The average joe typically has no idea whatsoever and paints with a very broad brush from a very constrained palette - but what does one expect? "Outsiders" like us simply don't know squat and frequently succumb to this type of cognitive bias. Too uninformed yet voicing such strong opinions with great conviction.
Sooo...
Where are your physicians from?
You probably have no idea.
Even their resumes can be misleading due to the how "affiliations" are codified.
From sheer numbers alone - odds are, #2 and #3.
