This weekend I finally loaded up some rounds and got to the range after a couple months of dealing with a back issue. There was no way that I was going to continue my load dev on my 37XC my first time out after my back just weeks earlier was prohibiting me from even getting out of bed.
So, I decided to do some testing with my 6 BRA. I've made the switch to N540, and got to a point where I got some good SDs, but still needed to do seating depth testing. I ended up loading a bunch of rounds, setting them to .015" off. The last time out, I used moly for mandrel lube then neolube for seating.
Here is the AMP plot from the double moly:
This was a total of 70 rounds - 66 fell within 9 lbs of seating force and 63 within 8 lbs.
This is a very similar spread to what I got the last time I used double moly (November):
Here is a plot of rounds I did in December using moly then neolube:
This is actually a little wider than the double moly - which is opposite of what I get on my 300PRC, 308 and 37XC where neolube tends to deliver slightly tighter results.
In case you're interested, I used a handful of rounds as foulers then started the testing.
Throughout the test and follow up validation, I kept one group going on the Garmin:
Here is the seating depth I settled on (.033" off):
I'm not dramatically happy with the group size because I know the rifle is capable of more - I'd like a 10-shot group to be more in the .3 range - but then the wind was blowing and the target was moving backward and forward at times, so I think this is close. I am decently happy with the SDs, as they held up against my initial assessment and are close to what I got on my last barrel - I'd typically get mid-4s.
