Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 concealed carry holster?

Re: 1911 concealed carry holster? I carry my 1911 in a milt sparks watch six. It's not one of their high end holsters, but its worked great for what I needed. I've got a Comp-Tac for my Sig an probably like the kydex option a little better since it gets hot in Texas during the summer and...

Rem. 700 VS 22-250 twist rate?

Re: Rem. 700 VS 22-250 twist rate? 77 grain Matchkings and going to be way too long to stabilize in a 1 in 14", need 1 in 7", maybe 1 in 8". The heaviest my .22-250 will handle is the 63 grain Sierra soft points which are kind of blunt for the weight. It will not stabilize the 60 gr vmaxes...

    Rem700 AAC-SD loads?

Re: Rem700 AAC-SD loads? I'm loading the 178 AMAXs with 44.5 grains of Varget in Winchester cases. I've run about 10 5-shot groups with that combo and am averaging about .6" groups at 100 yards (longest range I have access to currently). Was getting about the same groups with LC cases and...

    7mm Rem Mag hunting rifle

Re: 7mm Rem Mag hunting rifle Both the 7mm an 300 solid choices, my dad has hunted everything smaller than big bears with a 7mm RM for as long as I can remember. I hunted with a 7mm RM for several years also, but then bought a Remington sendero in .264 win mag a couple of years ago and have...

    Jewell vs Timney

Re: Jewell vs Timney I've got two Timneys set to 2 lbs. They break cleanly and have dealt with the west Texas dust I hunt in just fine. I prefer the wide serrated trigger shoe of the Timeny and bought my second one for that reason. The price is hard to argue with too.

    264 Win Mag

Re: 264 Win Mag Either of those twists will let you shoot all 6.5mm bullets. I've found little difference in trajectory and recoil from 120's to 140's in my rifle. Personally, I'd reccomed the 130 and 140 grain class bullets. You've got the capacity to push them pretty hard, and you'll see...

Expectations re accuracy with various loads

Re: Expectations re accuracy with various loads I've found rifles have their own personalities. I have two AR's and both shoot pretty well. My colt shoots everything from 52 grain amaxs to 77 grain MatchKings about the same. My rock river has been far more picky about the loads it likes...

    264 Win Mag

Re: 264 Win Mag Mine is a Sendero SF II, and I'm running it right around 3,000 fps with 140 grain projectiles. I've got somewhere around 700 rounds through it right now, and the accuracy is still as good as it was when it was brand new. Whenever I do shoot out the barrel, I'll get another...

    Rem 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD 308 - hunting loads

Re: Rem 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD 308 - hunting loads If you're sticking to factory ammo for Texas whitetail and hogs, I've had really good luck with Hornady 150 grain soft points. Not the newest or sexiest load, but they flat work. I killed a hand full of hogs and deer with them before I...

    remington sps tactical .308

Re: remington sps tactical .308 Ive got one of the AAC-SDs and have been impressed so far with the performance. Mine shoots 178 grain AMAXs into about .6" groups at 100 yards for 5 round strings. mine has somewhere around 700-800 rounds through it. I'd have to check my notes for an exact...

Why the stock you have on your rifle?

Re: Why the stock you have on your rifle? I've got an HS Precision vertical grip on my AAC-SD and got it because of the way the grip fit my hand. I need a stock with a pretty big palm swell to get my trigger finger in the correct spot. I was able to find one at a gun show to make sure it...

Gunsmithing Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews I just got my bolt back from Keith last night after he installed a slightly extended Marksman knob. It looks great and feels even better in my hand. And, even after all the great pics and reviews posted here, the results are still better...

    308 truck gun

Re: 308 truck gun Given a choice, I'd probably pick a 16" barrel with a detachable magazine. I've got a bolt action .22-250 (24" barrel) and a 16" AR that split time as truck guns. The two features that make the AR easier to use in the truck are size and magazines. 5 rounds never seems to...

    Fastest flattest screaming SOB

Re: Fastest flattest screaming SOB I run 50 grain ballistic tips through my .22-250 at roughly 3,950 fps, and this has proved to be an excellent combination for riding around in the truck. I have killed several whitetail and coyotes and a ton of hogs and other varmints out of the truck with...

    Manners T4A for 700 Milspec 5R

Re: Manners T4A for 700 Milspec 5R Great looking stock Nomad! I'm looking at buying one very similar yours pretty soon. Is your stock painted or is that the molded in pattern? If its painted what pattern did you have them use?

    ADL .30-06 not shooting straight

Re: ADL .30-06 not shooting straight I would check it with the synthetic stock. I have a BDLl .22-250 that came from the factory with a walnut stock. Shooting factory ammo it was no worse than 1.5" and then all of a sudden it opened way up. I wasn't having the same 2 here two here pattern...

6.5 Creedmoor vs 7mm WSM hunting rifle

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor vs 7mm WSM hunting rifle I've killed an elk with a .264 win mag, but I would rather have the wsm if I was going to shoot elk regularly. I'd pick the creed if you're only going to elk hunt occasionally and focus more on the smaller game you mentioned. 7mm gives you a little...

    Hornady 308

Re: Hornady 308 I havent shot those but the 150 SSTs have worked real well for me on coyotes hogs and deer. I wouldn't worry about test rate for bullets that light. If you optimize your barrel twist for that you'll severely limit your ability to shoot heavier bullets.

    rem 700 vs 22 250 questions

Re: rem 700 vs 22 250 questions I don't have the exact rifle, but I've got a m700 in .22-250 ive had for years. I killed a lot of Texas critters with it including several whitetails. Based on my experience, I would say stay with the .308 for big bodied muleys. They don't chamber factory...
