How many on Hide use their precision rifle for...

Re: How many on Hide use their precision rifle for... I bought mine to shoot deer and coyotes from a long ways off. I've dropped a doe in her track at 410, and a bunch of hogs between 350 and 400 or so. Coyotes haven't cooperated with me on range, I haven't gotten a shot at more than 100...

Rifle Scopes Trijicon my best option?

Re: Trijicon my best option? I've got an ACOG on one of my AR's and I have been extremely impressed with it. Low light performance is very good, and the optics are very clear.

    Well I bought one

Re: Well I bought one I'd get it scoped first so you can go out and shoot it. I shot my AAC-SD a few times off the bench with the factory stock and it shot just fine. I've since replaced to factory stock with an hs precision, but the factory stock was at least serviceable to get the rifle...

308 Varget, LC brass and 168 AMAX...

Re: 308 Varget, LC brass and 168 AMAX... I run 178 grain A-MAXs out of LC cases with Varget. I think it's around 44.5 grains of powder that im running. It's compressed but I haven't seen any pressure issues. I run 150 grain Hornady hunting bullets through a spanish fr-8 (.308 win also) and...

Primer pocket uniforming worth it or not

Re: Primer pocket uniforming worth it or not I have found this to be necessary with some of the recent lots of winchester belted mag cases (7mm rem mag mostly) I have bought. Some of the primer pockets have been so shallow that the primers are left well above the case head. The Winchester...

Rifle Scopes Having a hard time choosing hunting rifle scope.

Re: Having a hard time choosing hunting rifle scope. I have three Monarchs and one Leupold VX3. I've been thoroughly impressed with the Monarchs for the money. Visibility at the extremes of shooting hours is impressive to say the least. I have a Leupold VX3 on my 7mm Mag and the Monarchs...

Would I benefit at all in a new trigger?

Re: Would I benefit at all in a new trigger? If you're on a budget timneys are hard to beat. The wide grooved trigger is very nice, and feels considerably better than the smooth rounded x-mark. Midway will put the timneys on sale from time to time for around $100 if you can wait.

    Rifle case for nosey neighbors

Re: Rifle case for nosey neighbors Growing up our next-door neighbor was an avid time hunter and shooter. He was always helping us with our guns. Whenever I needed help, I'd just grab the rifle in question and head next door. Pretty much everybody on the block was a hunter so nobody ever...

Anyone used Longshot powder for 45ACP?

Re: Anyone used Longshot powder for 45ACP? I use it with 200 grain and 230 grain XTPs. I've generally had excellent results, I use the max loads listed and a good crimp. Accuracy has been very good. I havent shot them over a chronograph, but velocity does seem to be higher than anything...

    Hornady Concentricity tool

    Smoking Retumbo

Re: Smoking Retumbo I run 62.5 grains of retumbo with a 140 grain AMAX in my .264 win mag. I hadn't noticed it being smokey at all. Sounds like an incomplete burn as mentioned. If you're using that much powder I'm guessing you're on the lighter side of the bullet spectrum so I'd go with...

Powder Temperature Stability The bottom line!

Re: Powder Temperature Stability The bottom line! I haven't run any of my loads over a chrono to test how temps affect velocity, but I can speak to the pressure side a little. Most of my load development has been done in the summer in Texas which means temps in the 95+ range, and most o my...

one clean powder, suitable for 9mm and .45ACP?

Re: one clean powder, suitable for 9mm and .45ACP? I don't load 9mm yet, but I plan on starting soon. My plinking loads for .40 and .45 have been developed with Hodgdon's Titegroup and Universal. I've had good results with both but Titegroup is the cleaner burning powder in my experience...

    Accubond Load?

Re: Accubond Load? I've only started load development for these, but Winchester 748 has shot extremely well so far. My rifle hasn't seemed to like any other powder I've tried so far. I'm going to load some more Varget since I've gotten good results with it and every other bullet I've tried...

    If you had to choose

Re: If you had to choose The AMAX will expand, often violently at most hunting ranges due to the thin jacket walls and the polymer tip. The sleek HPBTs are going to act differently because they have very small openings at the meplat. Hollow points designed for hunting (bergers excluded)...

Am I the only one who reloads .40?

Re: Am I the only one who reloads .40? I tried the plated Ranier bullets midway sells for dirt cheap, but I thought they got a little too beat up during cycling, especially if it was chambered more than once. My go to "cheap" bullet has been the 150 grain Nosler jhp. I haven't priced them...

best VARMINT bullet for .223 in 16in barrel

Re: best VARMINT bullet for .223 in 16in barrel All of the above are good suggestions, but i settled on 55 grain nosler ballistic tips or 55 grain vmax (based on which ever is available at the time). I'd say whatever your rifle likes the best. My 16" guns are both ARs; one has a 1:7 twist...
