Remy 700 Varmint SAS 26 inch barrel cut to what length for a can?

As another member posted, its a PTG with a 5 round ASICS mag (I also have an Alpha 10 rounder), I bought the system for $120 (plus ~$60 per mag) and inletted my stock myself so the total cost of the set up was $240, which is tough to beat for a DBM. Later I bedded the stock and improved accuracy...

Remy 700 Varmint SAS 26 inch barrel cut to what length for a can?

I'd get the trigger before you get it cut and threaded, since the trigger will be a huge improvement over the xmark. Also you say its a factory barrel, 26in rem 700 varmint, so i assume you mean SPS, not SAS, so you will want to replace the stock early on as well, because the one it comes with...

Need help deciding on a purchase

Keep the Remington, I'm entering my Senior year of college and had a similar question 3 years ago when entering my freshman year. But I chose money over guns and kept what I had. As previously stated, keep a separate fund for guns and look at a part time job- college isn't as hard as they say it...

DBM conversion...best bang for the buck??

I did it myself with a rotozip and a bastard file. It worked for me, took longer than expected and was frustrating at times, but it works. I then bedded the rifle to complete the event. I would suggest having a professional do it, there are a few idiot marks on my rifle from doing it myself.

    .308 20" 1/10 or 26" 1/12 for 1000 yards?? ....did I make the right choice??

I have an SPS-V and it likes the 155s (A-maxes and SMK) more than any other round. The 155 SMKs are just shockingly accurate out of it, they are pushed fast though, around 2950 fps

DBM conversion...best bang for the buck??

I use PTG bottom metal: PTG Trigger Guard AICS Detachable Box Mag Remington 700 Short Action it's relatively cheap, works flawlessly, and wasn't terrible to install. Thought it is not drop in and most likely a gunsmith install is recommended. I do not know of any reliable M14 bottom metals...

SPS VArmint Good Place to Start?

Its a great place to start, mine has evolved over the years to where it sits now- a true 1/2 MOA gun as far as I can shoot it. I also sold my stock, trigger group and scope on ebay when I upgraded, you'll get more than you expect (at least I did) here is how it sits now: replace the stock...

Blowing primers screwing custom guns up.

I'd be willing to bet your ejector plunger is stuck, probably from a piece of primer or crud that got in the hole around it. I had a similar thing happen to one of my 700 bolt's from wolf ammo (the laquor or whatever they coat it with melted off and then re-hardened in strings in the ejector...

    Inletting aluminum bedding

I did it on my B&C stock, I used a rotozip and a large tooth metal file. It took a few hours and alignment wasn't as easy as I initially thought (put pins in the bottom metal like the previous post states) however it turned out really well and after a quick bedding job its down to 1/2 MOA...

B&C Medalist Stock for my 700 SPS

I have the hook style and its a great stock- it works well for hunting in the field and off a bench. Comb height was a shade lower than I like, so it got a few layers of athletic pre-wrap and then duct-tape, then covered with a stock pack. I would suggest bedding it, even with the aluminum...

How to replace Savage firing pin?

must be a misprint- Hodgdon's online reloading data center quotes 41.0 grains as a starting point and 45.3 as a max

How to replace Savage firing pin?

not really related but 45 grains of 8208XBR is probably what you want to work up to, not start off at (for when you do fix your firing pin), I worked up to 45 grains and settled on 44.6 grains of 8208XBR with 155 grain amaxs and I get amazing accuracy. any higher than 44.8 and i get signs of...

    Shorter LOP hunting rifle

Id look for a used Remington 700 youth in .308, perfect for use with thick hunting clothes (or a small framed person), I bought one for under $400 and it is as accurate as I could expect (about 3/4-1MOA out to 200 yards) the recoil is very manageable- its a hunting rifle so it gets shot no more...

Zero Stop for Leupold Mark 4

My first two versions of this were rubber "O" rings but I didn't have any that were thick enough or the right combination of thickness, although they did slip right over the mechanism housing. The hose washer was the perfect thickness and just needed its inner diameter opened up a bit.

Zero Stop for Leupold Mark 4

The Leupold Mark 4 is a great scope but the one thing I found it to be lacking the more I shoot at long range is a Zero Stop. Other top of the line scopes have them and I wanted to give my Mark 4 that capability. So I made a Zero Stop Shim for the elevation turret (M1 Knob) Out of my box of...
