Shilen accuracy: Select Match Grade vs Match Grade

Re: Shilen accuracy: Select Match Grade vs Match Grade In my opinion, any time you buy a rifle, it can be a crapshoot as to how well it will shoot. The better the parts that go into it, and the better the smith, the greater the chance it will shoot. Buy buying the better grade barrel; you are...

    Sidearms & Scatterguns All-around 9mm Handgun

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun I voted for the M&P, but if I could have the gun customized it would be the Hi-Power with a good trigger, extended safety and mag safety removed. A properly smithed Hi-power is a sweet piece. If I got the M&P I would want the Apex trigger. If the gun has to be...

Re: Full size 1911.... In 9mm? Your thoughts? I have had my eye on a Para P18 for quite a wile. I have had very good luck with 2 P-14's. I think the Para in 9 would be very plesant to shoot. Anyone have experince with a P-18.

    Gunsmithing Accuracy problems after fluting

Re: Accuracy problems after fluting I would think that any change you make to a barrel will change the harmonics, therefore effecting accuracy.

    Movie Theater Doomsday preppers.

Re: Doomsday preppers. I have done very little to prepare for the break down of society. I don’t expect my friends and neighbors to turn into cannibals a week after the food runs out. I am not the least bit afraid of the end of the world, it is unlikely to happen today, and there is nothing I...

    .243 vs 22-250

Re: .243 vs 22-250 I hope it is OK if I throw in another twist. I am gathering parts to build a 6mmBR Norma. I want a low recoil 300 yard tack driver. I have several 243 hunting rifles and like the round. How would a 243 stack up aginst a 6BR for groups at 300, assuming each had a top quality...

    Gunsmithing Shilen Barrles

Re: Shilen Barrles I ordered one for a AR-15. You could see a burr in the barrel where the gas port was, and the crown was wider on one side than the other. I sent it back- thank you Midwayusa.

Gunsmithing Win Mod 70 Clasic Feather weight Action?

I have and opertunity to buy one at a good price. Is the action on the Winchester model 70 classic featherweight rifles the same as a standard Winchester M70 classic action, or is the action on the Featherweight models lightened? I want to build a heavey varmiter and am wondering if this action...

Re: Inconsistent Shoulder bump I had some LC 308 that would not re-size properly, It spring back to size no matter how many time I resized it. it would not chamber in my rifle. I passed it on to a freind who used a small base re-sizing die. He was able to use it.

    Neck diameter and doughnuts?

In discussions about the neck diameter of a loaded cartridge vs. the neck diameter of a chamber, I am seeing references to “Doughnuts”. Can someone enlighten me on what these “doughnuts” are?

Gunsmithing No turn neck size question?

I am planning on building a 6BR Norma. I do not want to trim necks. There is a little difference in opinion about what size neck to get even if you want a no turn neck. So what I intend to do is to put together some loaded rounds to determine the neck diameter. Then I will have a starting point...

Gunsmithing Help with ordering a .30cal Krieger barrel

Re: Help with ordering a .30cal Krieger barrel I think you have gotten some really good advice from some very knowledgeable people here. I have only had 1 bolt gun built. It is a 700 SA in 308. It shoots very well and I am happy with it, but there are things I might change if I did it over...
