    Vortex Viper Gen2 Problems

my razor gen2 (4.5-27) was absurdly stiff in the magnification ring. I've heard they loosen up over time. My gen1 pst (6-24) is quite a bit easier to spin but still stiffer than my "lower quality" scopes.

    130gr RDF Data?

Just attempted load development with the blemish 130 RDF's and had horrible results. I've been doing awesome with the 140 RDF's so I don't know what's up with these. 2.930" COAL (70 thou off the lands), 42-44gr RL16, lapua brass, CCI 450's and was getting getting 250-2950 ft/s from a 24" CTR...

    Tikka T3 Thread

Any way to get the KRG Bravo to take the CTR mags? I love em and their 2.93" COAL.

    Tikka T3 Thread

My CTR is a lot lighter bolt lift than my T3 lite; as you said, I think it's mostly due to the bolt handle being quite a bit longer on the CTR than the lite.

    Good gear for a beginner?

I personally don't see the point in a progressive press for all of the prep stages you need to do for precision reloading. You'll decap, tumble, anneal (possibly), neck size, prime, powder, seat. Several points of having the case out of the press, and you're probably going to want to use a...

    Loading new brass

After my previous experiences, I wouldn't use fresh, unfired brass for load development (with "reading the pressure tea leaves" of brass/primers) but I think it's fine for firing so long as the necks aren't dinged in. Even my lapua brass had some dings in the neck/mouth due to their packaging...

    Expander Mandrels- Mandrel Materials Importance?

The short of it is that, if the material under the PVD process is polished well enough (prior to deposition), it can be much better than carbide (either carbide containing steel or CoCr-C HVOF). Amongst the PVD coatings, DLC (a diamond-graphite 'mixture) will be the best; followed by TiN, TiCN...

    Seating Depth Question

I think seating depth is more dependent on the bullet rather than powder, especially for such similar powders as RL-16 and H4350. If for nothing other than to give a data point; in my 24" CTR (6.5cm) with the 140RDF's I'm getting the best groups and lowest ES with 41.7gr of RL-16, COAL of...

    7.62 vs. .308 Brass

If you're reloading for precision, I would go a step further than deciding between 7.62 and 308; I'd stick with a single headstamp/manufacturer. Otherwise, you're going to have drastically different case volumes, pressures, neck thickness/tension, etc.

    Varget?

As previously mentioned, there are some better options out there. I've had great experience with Reloder 16 (as many others have); temperature stability of H4350 and ~100+ ft/s faster. I believe H4831sc and IMR 4451 are good options as well, but do not have the temperature stability that RL-16...

    16" .308 loads

My issue with poly-tipped, high BC, heavy 308 bullets is getting enough powder under the bullet and meeting mag length COAL, especially with 4064. My experience pushed me away from TMK/ELD-X/M's and more towards SMK/RDF's.

6.5 CM, 147 ELD, Lapua brass, RL16, OCW test.

Agreed it doesn't seem like that's in the realm of high pressure loading; I was just saying that if the primer cratering is an issue, those could be some things to look into (seeing as you took pictures specifically of them). I wouldn't want primer flow like that but that's just me.

6.5 CM, 147 ELD, Lapua brass, RL16, OCW test.

Those primers look quite cratered to me, even at 40gr. If your brass is stretching (especially on a first firing), I would take a look at the headspacing. Other things may be oversized firing pin hole or simply loading too hot. I'm getting 2775 ft/s (or 2900 without pressure but doesn't group as...

    6.5 Creedmoor Loads - Hornady 147 gr ELD-M (H4350 and RL16 Preferred)

That's a big jump from 43.1 to 43.3 Perhaps the first 3 acted as fouling shots or just heating up the chamber? Cleaned prior to shooting?

    6.5 Creedmoor Loads - Hornady 147 gr ELD-M (H4350 and RL16 Preferred)

Are you guys running into issues with seating at mag length? I'm doing 140's (not poly-tipped) and doing 2.930" COAL to be 0.030" off the lands. If I'm pulling back to 2.860" or 2.830", I think I'm going to be jumping the bullets a huge amount. Granted, maybe that's okay. It's in a Tikka CTR 24"...

Early pressure signs - 300 Norma Mag - why???

One thing I had with a 338LM was excessive headspace that allowed the rear of the case and primer to extend rearward until it hit the bolt face and I had signs of pressure (hard to lift bolt, cratered primers, ejector mark) early on. One telltale sign for me that suggested it was excessive...

    6.5 cm powder testing

Isn't 2.830" running quite short for a 140gr in 6.5CM? Particularly for a poly-tipped bullet? I'm at 2.93" COAL and 0.050" off the lands still.

    Tikka T3 Thread

I've owned 2 blued Tikkas and my friend has another; since I'm in Colorado (low humidity) take this for whatever it's worth but I have not seen any rust on the 3 of our rifles. Some people MIGHT think they saw rust if they ever saw thread locker in the barrel threads but you usually don't see...

Neck sizer causing scoring on brass. Recommendations?

Oh, thanks guys, I hadn't thought of either of those. I think bending the collet fingers out will likely solve it and I'll try touching up the brass ID/OD mouth as well. If neither of those works, I think I'll give a bushing die a shot.

Neck sizer causing scoring on brass. Recommendations?

I'm a bit frustrated with my Lee collet neck sizing die causing a fair amount of scoring along the necks of my brass. I bought 400 Lapua 6.5CM so they're not exactly cheap and I'd rather not trash them. I pulled the collet, deburred the edges of the "leafs", as well as polished the mandrel/pin...
