Can someone help me determine why my new build is giving me large groups?

Just something I read when watching some videos on faxon pencil barrels. I then googled this and someone else commented on this. They say that when the slide locks back on the last round it can cause flyers? Is this this even possible? Only reason I ask is I was adjusting my gas block while I...

Can someone help me determine why my new build is giving me large groups?

I'm going to have to take into account all these things when I go back to the range again. Not sure when that will be, either next week or 3 weeks away. Do you guys think I really need a rifle sled? Or should the sand bags I am using be good enough to get consistent groups? Do you think I...

Can someone help me determine why my new build is giving me large groups?

Yes, I had moved when I first started this and getting back into the hobby again.

Can someone help me determine why my new build is giving me large groups?

The stock that I'm using is because the lower is from another build. Why would the stock matter anyway, I have the gun setup on sand bags and am only just touching my shoulder with the stock.

22 caliber cleaning rod and jag, too large diameter for patches?

I'm using a tipton 22 caliber carbon fiber cleaning rod and a Tipton 22 caliber Jag for my ar15. I have to use very tiny cleaning patches on my ar15 or they will get stuck. The diameter of the tipton cleaning rod is almost the size of the bore. If I use 22 caliber cleaning patches for ar15...

Can someone help me determine why my new build is giving me large groups?

I'm somewhat new to this long range shooting. I did shoot a PSA 16" ar15 using this same scope and mount and I believe my groups were very close. I built an ar15 rifle with a Faxon 16" pencil barrel. LaRue MBT 2s trigger Barrel link...

Gunsmithing titanium barrel nuts and metal screws Anti Seize type? Should I use?

From what I know and read, if you are screwing together dissimilar metals you should use anti seize. One one gun I have a titanium barrel nut and black steel screws. I am also am using a titanium grip screw into aluminum. I can already tell that when leaving the steel screws in the titanium...

Gunsmithing Shimming and torque issue, what would you do? 85 lbs and keep it?

What I did was, I had another receiver from Aero Precision that had a slightly more barrel sloppy fit, I could feel a little more wiggle in the barrel before torquing. I used a .0002 shim in that one and was able to torque it to 65 ft lbs. I guess I will see how well it shoots and then...

Gunsmithing Shimming and torque issue, what would you do? 85 lbs and keep it?

Just seems too low at 35-40ft lbs no? I thought it was better to get higher?

Shooting range hearing damage from other shooters guns?

One thing I noticed is that if you wear safety glasses and just ear muffs, the safety glasses will break the seal and the ear muffs will not be as effective. That is why doubling up is important. Usually you never have perfect seal with earplugs in the ear or ear muffs, but doubling up will...

Gunsmithing Shimming and torque issue, what would you do? 85 lbs and keep it?

I'm having some bad luck. Aero Precision 308 and a titanium barrel nut that needs to be aligned for rail screws. The barrel nut recommended torque is 35-80 ft lbs. Here is what I did so far: and right now my barrel is torqued with 85 ft lbs and a .001 shim. no shims = 90 ft lbs of torque to...

Would it be bad to turn around a gun patch on a cleaning rod and reuse it?

Just something I was always wondering about. When you run a patch through a barrel, one side gets real dirty. Is there anything bad about just turning it around and reusing the other side?

Shooting range hearing damage from other shooters guns?

I was thinking more along the lines of a full faced helmet that sound proofs most of your skull. If you think about it the noise is going through your bones from your head to your hearing cells right? You would think by padding around your skull it should theoretically reduce the vibration of...

    Bore tech bore guide

What would you guys recommend for cleaning ar15's and ar10's where you only have a faxon pencil barrel on them? That being, these are definitely not precision rifles so is there really a point in using an expensive Mike Lucas cleaning rod on them? What would you recommend as a good value...

Shooting range hearing damage from other shooters guns?

I take noise induced hearing damage more seriously than most people and in the past when I would go out and shoot it was in the desert by myself. I am in a different state and there is no desert shooting for me, I will have to go to a range. At the range what I noticed is that not only will...

Gunsmithing Is this 308 receiver to barrel fit too loose? Are my tolerances normal?

Does anyone know the tolerances on 308 barrel extension and the receiver hole it gets put into?

Gunsmithing Is this 308 receiver to barrel fit too loose? Are my tolerances normal?

I'm using an aero precision ar10 upper and a faxon 308 barrel. The barrel slides into the receiver easily. If I put the barrel into the receiver and then hold the barrel, the receiver will easily slide off the barrel by tilting the barrel. I don't feel any resistance at all when pushing the...

Gunsmithing should barrel threads start at the same exact point?

I actually made a mistake. I tried it on a ballistic advantage 300 blackout barrel and a faxon 308 barrel. Both had the compensator stop at exactly the same point with the logo on the right side.

Gunsmithing should barrel threads start at the same exact point?

I bought this linear compensator, which has the logo on the right side. I then installed this on a barrel from the same manufacturer and it did not line up like that. I figured they must have timed it somehow to get it to line up. Then I purchased 2 faxon barrels. To my surprised I screwed...

Which light weight 308 barrel should I get, BSF carbon fiber or Faxon pencil?

I just happened to read something about the BSF barrels. The gas block is a .875" and someone said that didn't fit under the atlas 1 handguard. That could mean standard gas blocks will not work. The Foxon has a .750 gas block. This could be something to take into consideration that the BSF...
