Gunsmithing Which firing pin for Stiller Tac 30 should I get?

Not knowing any of the background, if you haven't measured it already, check the total firing pin travel. With the long sear, it should be around .285. If it is significantly shorter than that, you may have a short sear, which will be around .240 to .235, which may cause too light of strike for...

    Receivers only ?

According to ATF, Mark is correct. Since Remington does not sell the action alone, (it doesn't contain the required information) anyone disassembling a rifle and selling the action alone, becomes the manufacturer, and is required to inscribe the action with their Make, Model, SN, City and...

Gunsmithing PTG One Piece Bolt for a 700

^^^^^^They are a great alternative. It does require a little fitting. The amount you remove from the rear of the lugs will determine how much primary extraction you can get. You'll have to determine if it's better than a new handle on your existing bolt. With the PT&G, you'll get a 1-piece...

    Question about changing calibers?

Like Deadshot said, unless you get a donor action with the magnum bf, you'll use the action body. Or, you can have the bolt face machined to magnum dimensions, then have a new (external) extractor installed, and trued with the action. Start your build from there. with the cost of the machine...

    Gunsmithing Recommend me an insert

The descriptions of the inserts will tell you if that particular insert has a chipbreaker. Look at page 771 for different grades and applications. Then, just decide what radius you need. you'll need, at least, a couple different grades. If that confuses you more, call MSC. they're pretty helpful.

    Gunsmithing Cheek pad glue

3M #72 is designed for the rubber/composites, etc. It softens in hi temps. You could try 3M #77 or #90, which is the multi-purpose adhesive. I don't know how it will hold up in the heat and humidity you will have. It didn't do well for me at all, in the summer. It just softened up and came...

    Need Both? Same Caliber? 260 / 308

Re: Need Both? Same Caliber? 260 / 308 Keep the gas gun if you get out of it what you want. Build the bolt gun, back to .308. You can never have too many! I would always want to keep a 308.....or two, but not rely on the gas gun to suit all my needs(wants). Good Luck!

Gunsmithing Mill with 3 phase power?

Re: Mill with 3 phase power? First, because you said it was a manual machine, I presume it does not have a variable drive motor. If that's the case, you will need a phase converter, and can use a static converter...

    Gunsmithing Recontour Barrel

Re: Recontour Barrel You might call the maker and let them tell you if it will have any ill affects, or a specific process to follow. They'll give you a price for them to do it. I agree with Rhys, it is/can be a pain!

    Gunsmithing Lathe chucks

Re: Lathe chucks When you look at the 3 or 6 jaw chucks, check the TIR of the chuck. Naturally teh least amount of runout is better. That could alleviate some headaches down the road. I'd recommend a "Tru-Set" to give you a little more adjustment, and true your backplate to the machine.

    Reliable trigger

Re: Reliable trigger I've used both the Shilen and Timney. I like them both, both for reliability and consistency. They're both easy to adjust, which you may need for different types of competition
