    Gunsmithing installing ghost ring sights

Re: installing ghost ring sights The factory bead is screwed into a small hole. The factory "bead on pedestal" is silver soldered on. The aftermarket ghost ring sights are epoxied on, especially if they have tritium inserts. The heat from silver soldering would ruin the insert. When new...

Gunsmithing Pacific Tool and Gauge Bottom Metal

Re: Pacific Tool and Gauge Bottom Metal Poke, I think the difference is you are looking at it cosmetically, where there is not much difference, but if you look at it from the standpoint of durability there is a huge diff. Steel vs. cheap alum casting. Rem bottom is cheap crap. I do...

    Best Rem. 700 Clone?

Re: Best Rem. 700 Clone? I own two Lawton actions and they are both awesome, but having said that, I dont know that I would buy another. Barney was the heart of that company. The Bat VRPIC is truly one of the finest actions I have ever seen, but I agree with 0311 that they might be too...

    differences between rem 722 & 700?

Re: differences between rem 722 & 700? All parts are interchangable. The only real difference is that the slot was cut in the side of the right lug and added the ridge to the receiver so the bolt would (hopefully) not bind as much.

Fieldcraft Self built chassis is done!

Re: Self built chassis is done! I purchased the carbon fiber tube for the forend on ebay. The cheekpiece I layed up myself. Carbon fiber is just like working with fiberglass cloth. I used a 2x4, shaped the top for the curve/shape I wanted and then covered it with foil tape, then waxed it...

    Gunsmithing BAT vs Surgeon

Re: BAT vs Surgeon Was in Phoenix last week and dropped into Bruno's. Got to handle a Bat VR with the pic rail. That was one of the smoothest actions I have ever felt. Dont know what the bolt tolerances were but it was very nice.

    Badger M5 and 243 ackley

Has anyone run 243 ackley improved through a Badger M5 and AICS mags? Trying to decide between a standard 243 and the ackley. Wondering if I would have feed issues going with that caliber.

Re: Manners stocks pissing me off... Tom, the way you fix this is that on custom/ non standards, automatic $100 custom layup fee and no timeframe. But I know you better than that hahaha Seriously guys, Tom would bend over backwards to help anyone wanting one of his stocks, but if you...

Re: Manners stocks pissing me off... Tom has always been great and I can tell you first hand he is a stand up guy. I would have waited until I talked to him before posting this. You will most likely not find allies against him here. Life happens and if you were told there was an emergency...

    Gunsmithing Switching barrels question

Re: Switching barrels question Not really. I guess if you wanted to reuse the barrel nut you could make it work but rem 700's are designed to use a larger shank barrel with a shoulder. It would have to be set back, rethreaded and the chamber recut.
