    USMC-VS-US Property

The contract for the USMC rifles was only 3000 or so. All were 722 actions. The Army 722/40X and 700/40XB's were made in larger numbers. That is why the price difference. anything USMC marked also seem to be in greater demand. People will pay for the stamp.

Mauser sporterized to 30-06, can I update?

be aware there are different length Mauser actions. Buy Kunhousen's book on the Mauser rifles. This will let you know what yours is. As for Proof marks, what are they? This isn't a 8mm barrel re-chambered to a 30-06 case, is it? That was done allot in the 1960's. measure the bore.

Mauser sporterized to 30-06, can I update?

As I recall, the scope you have on it, was not that good. They looked kool, but didn't hold zero. Do you remember what barrel is on it?

Mauser sporterized to 30-06, can I update?

To tell the truth, I wouldn't touch it. The 30-06 is the longest cartridge you can pot in it. You might be able to do a short magnum to get a bit flatter shooter, but the 06 is good for long range as well. I have an FN commercial 98 action in 30-06 tht is sub 1/2" at 100 yards. It was built in...

    Need help on vintage rifles!!

    Ammo/Rifle Query

It's not Too much pressure but wrong pressure curve that he needs to be worried about. M118LR should be ok. You have to watch out for commercial hunting ammo that is loaded with slow burning powder. So he is right about some factory ammo.

Got a couple questions, CZ isn't grouping like it should..

The group you shot when switching ammo, was using the Eley lube. Next group, not so much. You need to clean the barrel before switching ammo types. Every company uses a different lube and even different lubes for different grades of ammo from the same company. When you dropped it, did it land...

Got a couple questions, CZ isn't grouping like it should..

Try a shim in the rear just to see if that helps. Cerecoat does add thickness to all the metal. It might have been enough to put more stress on the action. This in turn could change how the bolt locks up. Same with pressure points in the barrel channel. Might have been free floated before the...

Gunsmithing 8-40 scope base hole is stripped. Now what?

is this a one piece mount? add another mount hole to the mount and drill and tap an extra hole in the action. You can plug the other hole or just put the screw in it and locktite it in. The new hole will be what holds the base on. Brownells sells flister and weaver cutters for the screw heads...

    My new pair of AR's

Years ago I built a retro Ar on a Lauer lower and an Air Force M16 parts kit that was available back then. This is the non-forward assist upper. I picked up a couple of other lowers recently and built up two more AR's. One is on a Serbu Firearms lower and the other is on an Anderson lower...

    What suppressor for a .22??

You are correct in that a form 5 is not needed, but most suggest it is safer now days to have the paper work of where it is at.

    What suppressor for a .22??

You don't fill out another form 4 to have a NFA item repaired. It is a form 5 and no tax is do to send it in for repair or have it returned to you. You send back the complete suppressor for repair. That way you know the baffle stack will fit your tube.

Taking a 65 yr old rimfire to 200 yds

I think it will shoot tighter than that if you single feed it. You were getting bullet nose damage every time it didn't feed right. It might have even been hapening just entering the chamber. That will open the group on a 22 lr lead bullet. There is a reason they went to single shot target...

    Springfield 1922 1903A4 Clone help

Still do research on what you buy. There are NRA Sporters out there. When you find one go to Jouster.com and ask Hershel if it is a Sporter or sporterized. He is in the smallbore section.
