Looks like a cool place to shoot regardless of caliber.

Gunsmithing Cutting weight on a rifle

Completely agree .... start over with a new rifle using the above 3 points and I would add the following 4. Get a light weight barrel contour (Bartlein 2B) with a shortened shank profile. 5. Lightest bottom metal that fits your needs. Hard to beat factory if you are not set on a detachable...

    9mm Carbine Question

Was looking at a Palmetto State Armory 9mm upper with 4 inch barrel and 6 inch HG. It appears to be their HG and will have to call them and see if I can get inside dimensions. Cannot post a link for some reason. Want to keep it short so I can carry in a backpack. Kind of wish Troy made a 9mm...

    Varget and 6.5 Creedmoor

Rob - what powder and barrel length are you running. FWIW, I get 2550 out of my 6.5 Creedmoor using 42gr of 4350 out of a 16.5 inch barrel. Take mine to 700 yds on a regular basis.

    9mm Carbine Question

I would like to build/buy a 9mm SBR carbine for Glock mags and have been watching the sales. It seems that most completed uppers come with a barrel length from 4 - 6 inches but the hand guard extends beyond the end of the barrel and there is a comp of some sort that gets the muzzle past the end...

    Gunsmithing Blueprint Remington 700

The quality of the barrel and the chamber probably have a greater impact on the accuracy capability of a rifle than how true the action is. Also, I doubt that you can true the action and reuse your current barrel. Little doubt that a truing job including a new quality barrel would make it shoot...

Question about Kestrel 4500 vs Kestrel 5700

Personally, unless your are a really active shooter and able to master a lot of weapons, the number of rifles is of limited value once you get above 10. The 4500 is a great unit and well proven but the 5700 is newer and has some nice features. Probably one of the best features of the 5700 is...

    Gunsmithing Flush cup install?

Buy a Forstner bit of the right dia for wood working. Has a little pilot for guiding the start and a flat cutting angle for no chipping. Use this method all the time in my drill press with the stock held tight and never had an issue. IMO, you want the non-rotating style of cup so your sling...

Gunsmithing PTG bolt handle for R700 bolt

I have had these installed on two different R700 SA by shops that are known to do quality work and in both cases when the handles were correctly timed to the action, the bolt handles lifted so far that they would rub on the eye piece of the scope body when the bolt was cycled. The issue was...

Sticky bolt-cycle remedies? Titanium long action

If your bolt is painted, remove the paint and run Marvel's custom oil in the bolt, kind of heavy for a while until it breaks in...huge difference on my Stillers.
