    Welcome! Where a bouts in Canada are you from? The .308 is used for long ranges of up to 1000+ yards. .338 is used for upwards of 2700 yards (crazy, I know, check it out on youtube).     How about a tt-33 tokarev, I see them (in Canada) for $190 (surplus, $250 for unissued/new zastava) ALL the time and the ammo is ~200 for 2880 rounds! And they're actually not bad for plinking as they are reliable/easy to maintain. That would most definitely make a point!
