Re: carbon ring in chamber/troat area? Get some of the Shooter's Choice black powder gel. Put some of the gel up into the throat and let it soak overnight. Scrub it out with an oversize brush. If it's the big rock mountain carbon ring you may have to repeat.

    Gunsmithing Top notch Gunsmithing School?

Re: Top notch Gunsmithing School? 'Trinidad is great' has come from many reliable sources. Depending on your time and budget a number of these schools offer NRA Summer Programs (one or two week classes). Lassen College's GS program in Susanville, CA switched their entire program over from...

Gunsmithing Curing JB-Weld for scope base bedding?

Re: Curing JB-Weld for scope base bedding? Two hints: Wipe on a nice even layer of the paste wax. Make sure you get it everywhere you don't want the epoxy to stick. Let it dry and then buff it off, just like you were polishing your shoes or waxing your car. Then do it agian, wipe on the wax...

    Gunsmithing Bedding/epoxy for hard plastic

Re: Bedding/epoxy for hard plastic As was mentioned above, epoxy (or any other adhesive) will not adhere to plastic stocks. You can make holes for 'mechanical locks' but what you are in effect making is a bunch of little hinges. The stocks will still flex in a variable fashion. These stocks...

Gunsmithing Nail polish in trigger screws

Re: Nail polish in trigger screws If you are talking Remington triggers, the nail polish is to mimic the sealant that the factory puts on the screws to prevent movement. You put the nail polish back on after adjusting the trigger. If Remington every gets a hold of a trigger that is adjusted...

Gunsmithing ***AICS feeding problems, please help! Match soon!

Re: ***AICS feeding problems, please help! Match soon! The Rem 700 has an 1/8" lip that protrudes into the magwell of the AICS (it also does with the Badger DBM). The interior front of the AI mag (with the front plate) pretty much lines up with the edge of the action. If the plate has been...

used Rem 700 action vs. new custom action

Re: used Rem 700 action vs. new custom action Is it time to answer this question agian this week? You gain nothing. A trued Rem can be brought up to the level of a custom action but unless you already have one (free or insanely cheap) the cost of buying and truing one will bring you almost...

    Why not a .270?

Re: Why not a .270? Kenny Jarrett, builder of 'beanfield rifles' has long encouraged his customers to take a .280 Rem over a .270 Win. A greater selection of bullets allowing a wider range of performance with about identical internal ballistics. His thoughts were that Jack O'Connor would have...

Gunsmithing buying a stock that has been bedded

Re: buying a stock that has been bedded You don't even have to go too crazy with the dremel. Just sand out a little under the action and behind the recoil lug. Make sure you have clearance every where else (front and sides of lug, barrel) and that there is no binding where you have sanded...

    Gracey trimmer

Re: Gracey trimmer I have a Gracey and like it a lot. But it is a pain in the butt to adjust the cutting blade for different calibers. There are two blades and there is an art to moving them just right. Kind of like taking-down a Ruger 22 auto. Once you get good at it it's no big deal but you...

Re: Badger DBM Nightmare Did you drill out and bed with the pillars that came with the Badger? When mounting the DBM the length of the front and rear screws have to be tightened to the exact length of the pillars that came with it. If you hacked at whatever was in your B&C stock or shortened...

Gunsmithing Picatinny 20 MOA one piece Base ?

Re: Picatinny 20 MOA one piece Base ? Bishop, It's not the quality of the base that matters, it's the variance that is inevitable in Remington receivers. EGW, Night Force, Badger, et. al. make quality bases that are true. The Remington receivers will exhibit variable degrees of 'waviness.'...
