    I`m a cheapskate when it comes to bullet,powder and barrel life.I`ve build and competed with several wild cats.....30-223,22 dasher,22-250 Ackley,6ppc.....most will shoot surprisingly well while fireforming with full loads and bullet seated into the lands....

    If you have a pretty good handle on mechanical things...... do your own car,motorcycle,lawnmower household repairs i.e. have common sense...you can probably learn a lot by yourself and doing research on things via.www and u-tube....

    Did you order a dent/damaged machine....??? if not power it up...add lubes.....test all functions....if all o.k... ask for a 30% discount... plus repair parts...or a new machine....

    Blueprinting or trueing an action

    blueprinting is remachining a factory action to make round features (barrel threads ) concentric with the bolt raceway,and all perpendicular features ( bolt lugs,reciever lugs,front of receiver ) square with bolt raceway. A lot of guys just square ( True ) up the receiver face to the bolt raceway.

    with a steady rest..... you can do pistol barrels in a big lathe.....

    Good info..........you make it sound simple.....but any chronographs I`ve seen are finicky to say the least. I own 2...an Ohler 35P and a magneto-speed..... what happens if you need at least a 1/4" MOA gun to compete...... do you switch powders/bullets at this point.... change seating...

    +2 AMAN.....there`s an elk guide out of Gardner Mt. that has shot a lot of elk with a 220 swift...... shot placement is the key..... if you do a search on this site...there is a lot of info on shooting elk and other animals with the SMK bullet.....

    Was told blue printing/truing isn't all that good?

    I would recommend it.I have found rem.700 actions to be up to .013" out of concentric.... with respect to bolt raceway and barrel threads.... and the recoil surface to be hand sanded and out of square with barrel/bolt raceway.

    "Thread Galling"....................Any decent machinist can fix that.Looks to me like you would`nt have to shorten barrel..... just touch the crown...remove galled section.... rechase threads..... 1 man hr.machine time. Use a bit of anti-sieze in the future.
