New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
Aside from the fact that the Winchester has a 26" barrel and a different stock, are there any other differences between these two rifles?
Are the barrel contours/profiles the same on both the SPR and the Stealth?
That's what I'm considering doing, as I can't afford a custom built clone (like a GAP).
Still, I don't see why Remington can't just offer the 5R with a thicker M24 profile barrel.
strike is right - it's not the same barrel - it simply uses the same 5R rifling that the M24 barrel does - all you need to do is look at a picture of a military issue M24 and a Remington 5R and you can see the difference immediately - the M24 has a heavier barrel.
You're probably right.
However, don't they understand the market they're missing out on here?
How difficult is it for Remington to produce an M24 or M40 clone? It doesn't even need to be an exact clone (obviously this is custom shop work), but close enough that the rifle at least resembles the...
Fair points, but I still think they would benefit from it if they offered it - people would pay it.
Daniel Defense has the right approach to selling guns - "Use what they use" - that kind of marketing sells guns - people want military clone guns.
Remington would be wise to follow the same...
Since people seem to lust after the M24/M40, why doesn't Remington offer a 700 with the same heavy barrel contour and correct length? Would it not sell?
I ended up getting the SWFA SS 3-15x42 (see pics above).
Mount is the ARMS #18 and the rings are Badger mediums.
Scope and rings are awesome, but we'll have to see how the mount holds up - haven't taken it out yet.
I don't have experience with the glass quality of the fixed 10X models, but I do with the variable models. I owned a 5-20 HD and more recently picked up a 3-15x42 SS (non-HD).
I can tell you, that the glass quality is definitely better in the HD model, but honestly, the 3-15x42 non-HD has VERY...
What I probably should have mentioned is that I like the profile of the M40 variants.
So, the M40A1-A5 has a heavier contour barrel than the SPS Varmint?
I'd love to get a GAP M40 clone, but it's just way out of my price range.
My question is, if I buy a Remington SPS Varmint in .308, have the barrel cut to 24", and throw it in a McMillan precision stock like an A5, appearance wise, do I have an accurate M40 clone?
[Qhaven't wampy;2553911]Looks like you have a solid mound there as well as rings. Have you had a chance to do some shooting with this setup yet? Results? If so, what ammo were you using? I used to run an old bushy fixed 10X on mine. I think the new SWFA scope you have there is a nice option. Let...
Anyone else have a chance to test theirs yet?
I have one coming in tomorrow and I'm just curious how they're holding up for those of you who've had them for a little while now?
