Re: Mt. Lion down near RCSD dunno. he said this is the first one he ever saw in person. thought it's tracks were big...but holy SMOKES. In all his years of hunting out there the closest he's ever gotten to seeing a cat is crossing tracks. then to get 5 FEET from one? New underwear time...

Hunting & Fishing Mt. Lion down near RCSD

My uncle just texted me on his way to the check station in Rapid City SD - he shot a VERY large cat this morning. He got lucky enough to pull one of the few available tags this year. I have very few particulars at this time other than the story which i'll relate to you here as best I know. He...

Hunting & Fishing Shanks...the underappreciated cut...

Re: Shanks...the underappreciated cut... never felt the need to, but may do some more now. I'd imagine a neck roast would work out well provided you could skim off the deer fat after cooking. I'm not a big fan of the taste of deer fat at all. even the intramuscular stuff has the flavor of...

Hunting & Fishing Shanks...the underappreciated cut...

Last july I caught an episode of Good Eats where Alton discussed the braising of lamb and beef shanks and I thought I might give it a try. I harvested a red tag doe towards the end of july and saved the shanks for doing some Osso Buco. WEll...when putting some meat away last week, I found the...

Hunting & Fishing Ended my deer hunting for 2010 season today

Re: Ended my deer hunting for 2010 season today i did beat myself up a little...the shot presented was a high shoulder, I took it and fooked it a little. still...zero tracking was nice (again) and i finished out with no wounded and unrecovered deer. Could have been a far worse season than...

Hunting & Fishing Ended my deer hunting for 2010 season today

filled my last antlerless tag today near home. hit it with a lightfield sabot 2-3/4" EXP Hybred slug. Thought you might like to see a recovered slug that only went thru 7 inches of deer and stopped under the far side skin after blowing the backbone just behind the shoulders. Deer dropped...

    Hunting & Fishing Gloves...

Re: Gloves... know exactly what you are talking about. I just wish neo didn't make my hands feel cold and clammy. there are days I have gotten by with one of those tube things too, as long as my hands stay dry. the minute they got wet (snow, blood, snot, etc...) the tube was useless to me.

    Hunting & Fishing Gloves...

looking for input...my leathers took a real beating this year busting brush. I've alwyas been a big fan of leather outers with a wool glove liner like the old military flight gloves. I had a pair of the USMC manzella? liners but have since lost them and since the primrose took a few bites out...

    Hunting & Fishing scope/rifle balance

Re: scope/rifle balance I was rolling with a 6-18 for a while and felt it was "too much" and changed to a 3.5-10 - and I now carry it at 4-6x mag all the time. carrying at 5.5 wont be a big deal. I shoot both eyes open anyway, so acquiring a target quickly at 5-6x isn't too big a deal...
