Kelblys says no CLR for you........

Guess I'm living under a rock. I've never even considered using CLR on a firearm, and have no idea what purpose it would serve. Flame away...

    Gunsmithing South Bend 16x72 acquisition

I own a Sheldon and a SB...so big fan of 'Merican iron; but that's a road too far for me. Unless that machine saw very little use back in it's day, scraping isn't going to cut it- if there's a significant wear ridge at the top of the front v-way, the bed will need to be planed, then the...

    Gunsmithing Cheek rest mod.

I use Graco hardware. Easy to install, no big slab of metal where you need to hog out the bulk of the butt. https://graco-corp.com/product-category/adjustable-comb-hardware/

    Looking for TKIV-85 info, parts?

Customer that I've done some "interesting" projects for in the past emailed me that he acquired a TKIV-85 stock, and the all-important barrel bedding block. That's it... I think I have a hex receiver, but beyond that I have no knowledge of availability of correct parts (if any). Barrel print...

Gunsmithing Barrel - Cut for a different action and rechamber?

Interesting. I'd always assumed that the button-rifling process would work-harden the steel in the grooves.

    Brake Cleaning

You don't want to be removing timed/shouldered brakes frequently. Particularly with fine thread pitches you will stretch the threads enough so that the brake will end up overclocking slightly. Obviously won't matter with self-timing or non-directional brakes. Otherwise I recommend using shop...

    Gunsmithing Lathe selection

I need to school myself more on carbide grades/composition. For some reason I've yet to figure out (no doubt type of carbide), both the standup and laydown carbide partial profile inserts leave me with substantial chatter on the threads. Full profile- smooth as a baby's... Plus, ya just can't...

    Gunsmithing Lathe selection

Old 'Merican iron is an option but getting tougher to find. Depending where you are geographically, they can be scarce, or common... where I am in the SE, it's a machine desert- in the NE, and N central (former manuf hotspots) they're much more common. You need to know at least basics on how to...

    Mauser 24/48 build

There's the M48, and there's the M24/47 (M24's re-arsenaled in 1947). The M48's were post-war, domestically (Yugoslavia) produced and are usually in very good/arsenal condition. Both are intermediate length actions. . The Yugo's utilized a "safety breech" which- if used on the rebarrel- would...

    300 PRC throating reamer

The best way to "DIY" off the lathe is with a PTG Uni-Throater. Integral guide/positive stop. Significant investment for a one-time use, and they're caliber-specific. I cannot stress enough that you need to proceed very carefully. You're removing a human hair's worth of material...hot knife...

Gunsmithing Magnum, or Ultra Magnum M700 Receiver for .300 PRC?

^^^ Not mine- he already has a magnum action. I didn't ask for advice/M700 bashing that seems to be a pastime here- the new production receivers are in fact, pretty damned good from the few I've handled.

Gunsmithing Magnum, or Ultra Magnum M700 Receiver for .300 PRC?

^^^ Thanks. Forgot that the RUM has a rebated rim. The wider feed rails on RUM action are because of the .550 body. But, question still remains whether the RUM action has a longer cutout? The PRC is close to RUM length, longer than "std" LA chamberings.

Gunsmithing Magnum, or Ultra Magnum M700 Receiver for .300 PRC?

.300 Win Mag = .513 base .300 RUM= .550 base .300 PRC= .532 base PRC is midway between the Win Mag and Ultra Mag. No tech information/prints available from Remington. Will the PRC feed through the rails (without modification) on the magnum action, or is the ultra-magnum receiver needed?

Coup De Grâce, New Action from American Rifle Company, $899 WOW!

Yeah, fair enuf... guess it was more of being stunned that there's an action (soon) that'll be capable of handling the Lapua/Norma mags at near half the cost of the other players...(y)

Coup De Grâce, New Action from American Rifle Company, $899 WOW!

Forgive me for not reading through 1000 replies on this thread to see if this has been asked/answered- but this line in the original post got my attention. Bolt lugs/receiver abutments are beefy enough to safely withstand the bolt thrust of the Lapua? Is the bolt body "typical" .700 nominal?

    Bedding a savage 110

Nonsense. Boyd's just doesn't want to fuck with it, maybe because the rear pillar is notched for the sear) Plenty of places to buy the pillars, including Stocky's: https://www.stockysstocks.com/savage-10-110-steel-pillar-sets.html Easy to DIY the pillar install. Receiver bedding is a bit more...

Good to hear. I've seen nothing but positives on the "new" Remington Arms production of M700's. Now, if only I could get my hands on an Alpha...
