    I shot one in 300 win mag. It was a hammer and more of the lightweight hunting profile. The stocks for me look decent and seem to perform well but I prefer the profiles of others.

    Depends on the Magnification you want and I suppose what you are likely to do more of eg Hunting or Shooting Paper. There are some great options out there... Nightforce SHV 4-14*56 $975 Sightron SIII 8-32*56 $1K Those two immediately come to mind but there are some good choices elsewhere...

    Some excellent advice on here. It's also worth considering the SMR Paladin and that would leave you enough cash for a nightforce SHV and some leupold mark 4 Rings.

    Fluting? Yes or No ?

    It's about what you want and in some cases if you need it. I like the way flutes look but also I carry my rifle on long hunts over hilly and uneven terrain so the weight saving is worth it. It's your choice.
