Options for dope management and Kestrel selection

Hello, I'm not a new shooter but I'm slowly progressing into the style of shooting that is discussed here on the Hide. I'm looking at getting a Kestrel, and I see that the most popular version seems to be the 5700, that contains trajectory data and calculates your firing solution. My gut...

Are my expectations out of line?

I think they're being generous. I would have been happy if they'd cleaned up the plastic parts by hand and the metal parts in a mill. Maybe some compensation like some kind of free of charge accessory (better than Butler Creeks). They're still going to have to do these modifications to another...

Pls recommend spotter for paper targets at 200-300 yards.

No, I thank you for sharing your experiences. I think I'm holding my horses for now. Christmas time is not nigh.

Pls recommend spotter for paper targets at 200-300 yards.

I do not expect any shot cam to have the same longevity as a spotting scope. Batteries, wires and a smartphone app.... one of those will fail or disappear within a decade. A spotting scope will last longer. Is it not feasible to get a decent spotter for 400-500 bucks?

Pls recommend spotter for paper targets at 200-300 yards.

I have plenty love for my father, but he's not getting anything Swarovski until I get a couple of promotions and pay raises. I don't know what budget to set. Nobody I shoot with uses a spotting scope ( I use a rifle with a K624 for spotting). If the job can be done with a 400 dollar scope then...

Pls recommend spotter for paper targets at 200-300 yards.

My father got me some nice optics and I'd like to return the favour. Well, partially at least. He's not the kind of gun owner who stacks up on high magnification scopes and he does not own a spotting scope. I'm figuring a nice spotting scope would really help out on his range trips... The main...

    Human Compost

I have no issue with this whatsoever. It's the same as cremation for all I care.

Man child throws temper tantrum at tow yard, threatens employees and curses his own mother

How old is this kid? That mother sure is in a bind. I can see why she wants to keep the kid from turning this into a fist fight, but he's really embarrassing himself by any standard of honor there is. He's too irate and violent to be esteemed as an adult, and too weak and childish to be seen as...

    Tikka T3 Thread

Anybody with experience willing to comment on choosing 155 gr SMK or 168 gr SMK for a Factory Tikka .308 barrel? The difference in BC is relatively small compared to the difference in weight. This favors the lighter bullet. I'm thinking, however, that the 168 gr bullet will do better in the...

Muzzle brake sand blasting scope - myth?

I just screwed my first muzzle brake (no name but seems to work alright, three large side vents and three small holes drilled on top) on my Tikka CTR with a 20" barrel. On top of the rifle is a K624i with a large, beautiful objective. I've heard some gun shop chatter and seen some forum...

    Tikka T3 Thread

To me it smells like a screw (action screws or pic rail screws is too long and interfering with an edge on the bolt. I had a similar issue on an old Sako a few years ago. The Tikka action is supposed to be smooth. Something is wrong.

Range Report Any DOPE on the .308 150 gr TTSX? True G1 BC?

I'll report back after next range visit. MV measurements have been consistent, I'd rather believe I messed up the 5 round group at 300.

Range Report Any DOPE on the .308 150 gr TTSX? True G1 BC?

I hear you. I'll go back to the range and shoot some more and see if the numbers match upp better.

Range Report Any DOPE on the .308 150 gr TTSX? True G1 BC?

Ladies and Gentlemen, Yesterday I tried my new general purpose hunting load at 100,200 and 300 meters. It's the Barnes TTSX 150 gr launched at 2790 feet per second from a .308 Winchester case. Scope height is 2.2" Zeroing at roughly 200 yards ( to get point blank range as far as possible with...

Are you going to stick the Vortex in between the red dot and the rifle, or are you leaving it like that?

    Tikka T3 Thread

I tried taking it apart and putting it back together after reading JGR's post. Couldn't get it any tighter, but I tried again just now when I saw that you were of the same opinion. Now the bottom of the hole is tangential to the top ridge of the stock, just like in your pictures. It's really a...

Here's my problem: Doesn't feed: Feeds: Note how the round spot welds in the front of the mag shows in the top picture. Upon examining the magazine, I don't find the follower to be out of place in any way. It's as if the magazine is too short along the axis of the cartridge, so that it...

    Tikka T3 Thread

I realize I forgot to put that in my post, but I have an original out of the box Tikka T3x CTR. The forend is integral with the rest of the stock and can't be moved back and forth.

    Tikka T3 Thread

I've searched around a bit and I haven't found a fix for the magazine issue that I have. The front of the magazine dips down, and sometimes this causes the tip of the bullet to get stuck on its way to the chamber. The short term fix is to rest the rifle on the front of the magazine. I tried the...

Cool, we don't get a lot of Manners stocks on this side of the pond.
