Ya saw that, seems prices for odds and ends are getting higher. I believe the first front sight bases were made inhouse by Remington and later ones from Redfield but I may be wrong.

No idea, I would say that they would have used new barrels.

Ya that's correct, anyways I don't often see the correct height for the front Redfield sight base for sale. But you could try Steve Earle. https://www.steveearleproducts.com/

I believe the front sight came from RPA, although I am not sure which model. With regards the actual flash hider, I for one have never seen one for sale that actually fits the larger front sight base used by the RPA.

    lighter scope for backpacking

The leupold vx3hd 4.5-14x40 side focus is 15 ounces, running an older vx3i 4.5-14x40 cds-zl, no real issues, yes its sfp it has a wind plex, wanted a lighter scope and the price was right. Ran a tikka t3 270wsm stainless for many years, around 7 1/2 with a scope of this weight category.

With regards the re-issue campaign, are you talking about the collectors edition that is when they used old stocks, bottom metal's, etc with new barrels and receivers. Because some were g-prefix and later ones rr, as that was remingtons prefix since 2012/13. They still made new M24's during that...

Was the barreled threaded when you bought it. Since you are so far along with a 24a2, why not continue, that is if you can source one of Ron's cans.

    Refurbishing or new rifle?

Why a bad choice with regards the 260 over the 6.5cm. Rebarrel and shoot away, not happy with the rifle?, use the money you save to shoot more.

Yeah there's a few redfield bases that will fit, Outback parts did make one, as did Steve Earle

That's the wrong base, the modified 490 is correct with a .175 front site, other than the rpa rear

The follower on the m24 is milled, if you are using the correct bottom metal, the mag box would need to shortened from 38 to 32 to fit, not sure about the spring. I am sure they would work anyways, not sure about the reliability

My redfield base measures about .91 long, .175 high, similar spacing. The ok weber is about 1.01, as above, similar spacing and about.3 high
