    M1 Garands at Camp Perry

Re: M1 Garands at Camp Perry More coming off the truck. I did speak with the CMP staff on Tuesday (26 July) and they said that a truck from Anniston, Alabama arrived that morning and that some nice rifles would be hitting the racks in the next few days.

    M1 Garands at Camp Perry

I happened to get to Camp Perry (CMP) today and there was a whole rack of nice Garand's with the scope mount. Decent wood and finish with most rifles speced at 1 @ muzzle and 1-2 @ throat.

Range Report Bullet recommendations for Savage LRV 1 / 9" twist

I am somewhat comfortable selecting bullets relative to barrel twist rates for 6.5 and 308 bullets. I came upon a Savage bolt gun with a 1 in 9" twist rate. I know that it should shoot 55 to perhaps 69 grain (maybe 75s) bullets quite well, but I am looking for actual experience with different...

Range Report Did this bullet come apart in the air?

Re: Did this bullet come apart in the air? Does Sako use their own barrel in thir rifle or do they shop it out. You may want to speak with Baretta or the barrel manufacturer to see what they can tell you.

Gunsmithing Nitride Barrel Treatment - what do you know

Re: Nitride Barrel Treatment - what do you know Okay I have been poking around on the forum and I picked up that the barrel should have rounds through it before sending it off for nitriding. If I have 450 down the pipe is that too many? I have not received a call back yet from any companies.

    Gunsmithing Cryo treating a barrel

I just started a thread on nitride treating and found some information in other places about cryo treating barrels for easier cleaning and better accuracy. I looked up cryo treating in the search engine here and did not come up with much. Who can weigh in on cryo treating barrels? Thanks

What calibers can I rebarrel from a .30-06 700 BDL

Re: What calibers can I rebarrel from a .30-06 700 BDL I am moving toward a 6.5x55 using a Remington 700 action in 30-06. The Swede is only a few thousandts wider at the rim and my gunsmith said that it should work.. the 260 caliber is pretty nice.

Gunsmithing Nitride Barrel Treatment - what do you know

Re: Nitride Barrel Treatment - what do you know Some good information. Thanks. So it is not a coating and therefore should not affect the accuracy of the barrel. Is that what you folks have expereinced? Gary and others, who / what companies would you recommend? I just may give it a try.

Gunsmithing Nitride Barrel Treatment - what do you know

I shot at the range this past Sunday and the shooter next to me was shooting a 6.5x55 AI in a Savage action and the barrel was treated / coated with Nitride inside and out. This shooter claims that he should get 2-3 times the barrel life with this treatment. He said the he needed a little less...

    6 BR for Tactical Matches

Re: 6 BR for Tactical Matches Some good comments. I am leaning to starting with a Savage Long Range Precision Varmint with a 1 - 8" twist. I can only find 1 - 12" twists on places like Gunbroker, and auction arms. Anybody know of one available at around $1,075?

    New rifle - Choate stock??

I am on a pretty tight budget for a new rifle that will be used to bang steel plates and I am looking for options to the $600 - 800 price tag for a stock. I saw some Choate stocks on Brownells that were around $200. I am ready to order one but if the experiences with this brand are negative I...

    6 BR for Tactical Matches

Re: 6 BR for Tactical Matches Thanks for the feedback. I am feeling a bit more comfortable now with this caliber. Part of my issue is that I have some cervical spinal problems and the 6BR sure is less punishing. That does not mean that I will give up on the 6.5 calibers and the good ol...
