The Joys of Being a Mechanic

Admittedly, it’s not my daily anymore, but it was for a solid five years until I needed a vehicle that my vendors wouldn’t bitch about riding in during the summer. The vinyl seats aren’t so bad, you kinda get used to peeling yourself out of them for 5-6 months a year, granted this is S.C. NC...

The Joys of Being a Mechanic

If Fayettenam Fuckwit is an ethnicity maybe that’s it. Down here it mainly seems to be dirty white kids with chinstrap “beards”, flatbilled hats out on backwards and affliction shirts covering up what I’m sure are track marks and a sccy 9mm or hi-point. Always Florida Georgia line or fuckelback...

The Joys of Being a Mechanic

Well whoever can design a truck that can’t be butchered into that retarded “I could only afford half of my lift kit” “Carolina squat” look will get my respect. It makes it look like a cow just back from the bull. Idiots around here are fascinated with a 1500 Chevy with a squat, low profile...

The Joys of Being a Mechanic

I had an 86 lesabre with the 3.8, that engine was nearly bullet proof. the rest of the car fell apart around it.

The Joys of Being a Mechanic

The problem is people got sold on solutions to problems that don’t exist, COO of the last company bought a brand new 2017 f 150 short bed platinum with every damn gadget a guy could purchase including an automatic tailgate and lid; he also swore on his mother’s grave that the 5.0 liter in it was...

    ishapore 308

FYI, there’s a couple of threads on CMP forums about .308 win vs. 7.62 nato rounds in the ishapore rifles, lots of internet squabbling over which way to calculate bolt thrust and what brass to use. No real consensus other than lower pressure rounds are probably best.

    Note taking.

Never hurts to write down torque specs for action screws, scope rings, and so forth, and keep your torque wrench/basic tools with you when you go to the range. Beats trying to find data online out in the boonies if you have to do some modifications or adjustments. If you have pic. rails and a...

    ishapore 308

This thread might do better in the vintage rifles section, theres several Enfield variant experts over there. I looked at one of these a while ago it seems the conventional wisdom with them is not to push for hot loads. Given the twist rate 1/12”, my guess is that they were intended to run144...

    Hunting & Fishing Tree Saddles

I appreciate that, your perspective as a tree climber is what I’m looking for. I’m no stranger to wearing a harness or climbing but it’s been for fall protection from elevated platforms, not sitting stationary for much of the day while you work with your hands so I don’t think my experience is...

    Hunting & Fishing Tree Saddles

Does anybody have much experience with tree saddles for hunting? I’m interested due to the size and weight to carry into the woods instead of a bulky climbing stand. Seems to be mostly oriented toward bow hunters, has anybody here used one with a rifle?

    Bolt Knob Threading

I have a 9x19 manual lathe and I have been considering doing something similar by putting a v block in place of my tool post o hold the bolt and chucking up an annular cutter to cut the Remington knob down to size. Pretty cool!

    What is a Woman?

My grandad used to say that all the time, back then it was a joke but now it’s starting seem like prophetic wisdom.

Maggie’s The Shit you see on the range

Got tired of seeing all the holes in the tin roof at the local DNR range so I joined a private club, second trip there and I’ve been shooting alone for about an hour when this older fella comes up with a mini-14, and dumps a whole mag in 3 seconds without hanging a target. Whatever. So we go...

.280 Ross and the Canadian Model 1910, any good reference material?

I just got done re-reading Herbert McBride’s book “a rifleman went to war” about his experiences as a machine gunner and sniper in the trenches with our northern neighbors in the Great War and he talks a good deal about the Accuracy and flat trajectory of the Ross model 1910 rifles they...

Understood, and as I stated (maybe came off as sarcastic, I’m a habitual linestepper) I do appreciate reminders to be more respectful, no Ill will meant.
