Short Barreled .243 + Flash Hider

thanks for the reply. i did the same as you tto, researching too many forums spending way too much time finding info on a short barrel .243, each one contridicting the other. if it is any help, i was satisfied using imr4064 in my .308 when it was 22" getting 2950 fps on a not quite max load...

Short Barreled .243 + Flash Hider

UCCHRIS - i've just got the urge to do almost the same as you, but keeping at 18". it may be a little while before i have rifle in hand, you mind sharing your recipe? i ran some JBM calcs on 58's, 65's, 75's, 87's, 100's - it appears for the guestimate of what the FPS may be with a shorter...

    boydes stock on savage

both are only a few oz diff in weight. probably will come down to what grip angle you are more comfortable with. don't rule out the prairie hunter stock, it's pretty nice too. if you have other rifles you use frequently, probably using the more familiar of the grips to your other rifles...

Building a rifle for the wife..............and me

i just started messing around with the .243 last year, very impressed with what it does from 100Y out to 420Y (the longest i have available locally). for years thought of as the kids or ladies caliber so i didn't bother with it, boy was i mistaken for doing that. a wide range of bullet choices...

    ruger american compact in .243?

that's what i was thinking on the LOP, with all the insulated stuff i got on during our "hot" coyote season, it should be even steven. just hafta site in with the same amount / similiar padding, or if not working out just order another full size stock from ruger parts catalog. i recently got a...

    ruger american compact in .243?

has anyone used one and care to share some groups? i was grazing at the local gander mtn, they had a used axis there for 250.00, got me thinking about adding a coyote only rifle. can get a new ruger american compact for 300.00, would rather go that route i think. i like the idea of the...

Designing a rifle chassis for Savage MKII

being a fan of defcon's work, i just wanted to point out to the defcon haters that he does have a "real" rifle with even a vortex (i think) sitting on top.

Hunting & Fishing Best range to Zero a .308

depends too on what you are using the rig for. for either hunting or long range plinking, 100 yards is a good start. for hunting there's not much difference for something closer in as far as point of impact goes. please take no offense, but until you get some rounds under your belt and...

Hunting & Fishing painting duck decoys - most common NE PA ducks

yeah, i was thinking of a jerk rig, i like the idea of having that movement going. we also get some black and white ducks mid to late season, not sure yet if they are buffleheads, ring necks, goldeneyes, or scaup. again being a newer duck hunter and having ducks as a side show to geese, i...

Hunting & Fishing painting duck decoys - most common NE PA ducks

i've got 2 dz mallard decoys that i've picked up on clearance sales and such. i'd like to keep 8-10 of them mallards, then paint up the rest to match the types of ducks around my area rather than specifically buying decoys for that type of duck. if you couldn't tell, i'm a somewhat...

Rifle Camo, why? (Can of worms)

i hafta admit, originally i did mine for the "snipery cool custom looking" factor, or just as some have personalized plates on their car, it's a one of a kind and something different from the guy sitting next to me at the range. along the way, even with a krylon / rustoleum job, i've found...
