    300gr VLD Hybrid@ 1700M

Re: 300gr VLD Hybrid@ 1700M I believe the 3.850" number refers to the outside-dimensions of the magazine. 3.775" is probably closer to what you can actually fit inside the magazine. And even that would be tight. I would say in my Savage 110BA, the Berger 300gr hits the lands around 3.835" --

    Maggie’s Favorite beer thread

Re: Favorite beer thread I normally drink Laughing Lab, but I picked up a growler of Bristol ESBee today. It's very good too. --

    Maggie’s Favorite beer thread

Re: Favorite beer thread Bristols Laughing Lab is far and away my favorite. I do also like the Left Hand Brewing Milk Stout on-tap. I'd bet it's the Nitro version, but I'm not certain. I did try the regular Milk Stout bottled version and didn't like it nearly so much. --

    Gunsmithing 338 Norma barrel(s) for Savage 110BA

Re: 338 Norma barrel(s) for Savage 110BA I wasn't so much looking for a new barrel -- or someone to do the work -- at this point. I was just wondering if it would be POSSIBLE or fairly straightforward to put together somewhat of a DIY barrel-swap "kit" for the Savage 110BA. If it's not a...

    Gunsmithing 338 Norma barrel(s) for Savage 110BA

Recently bought my first Savage -- a 110BA in 338 Lapua. I don't really know much about Savage's, but it was my impression that one claim-to-fame was that it's pretty straightforward to install a new barrel. I may be entirely mistaken. I was just thinking, since there are presumably a bunch...

Suppressors Buy them all at once to save time?

Re: Buy them all at once to save time? I did two NFA items a while back. I don't remember exactly what the issue was -- I think I did two sets of fingerprint cards, but only 1 declaration of citizenship form. The lack of having duplicate "everything" for both items held things up at the...

Gunsmithing Twist rate for 7mm for 168gr to 180gr vld ?

Re: Twist rate for 7mm for 168gr to 180gr vld ? I was told a 9-twist would probably be fine, but I went with an 1:8.5" twist in my 284 Winchester. --

Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

Re: Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM I shot the 2/10 & 2/11 matches. Saw Dino make an AWESOME shot, smacking a white target at around 500yds that was almost completely obscured by wind driven snow coming off the trees. --

7 WSM or .284 for new build?

Re: 7 WSM or .284 for new build? I've got a box of the Sierra 180gr (PN 1980 / G1 BC .660) and a box of the #1975 175gr. Just haven't done much with them yet. I bought the 175gr because they came highly recommended, but I also have a 260 Remington. The main reason behind the 284 was to...

    338 Norma -vs- 338 Lapua (Savage 110BA)

Re: 338 Norma -vs- 338 Lapua (Savage 110BA) I had read that one of the primary design goals of the 338 Norma was to accommodate the 300gr-class bullets in a 3.6" COAL. Unfortunately, I had the impression this limitation wasn't really an issue with 338 Lapua loaded out to ~3.7" to ~3.8"...

Ballistic Coefficient (BC) of Lapua 139gr Scenar?

Lapua used to publish a G1 BC .615. That's what's in the Sierra Bullets Infinity 6 software. Lapua now publishes a G1 BC of .578 on their website, along with a G7 BC of .290. In Applied Ballistics for Long Range Shooting, Bryan Litz lists the G1 BC as .557 and G7 as .285. Just curious what...

    338 Norma -vs- 338 Lapua (Savage 110BA)

Re: 338 Norma -vs- 338 Lapua (Savage 110BA) If Savage had offered the choice between the two, I probably would have gone with the 338 Norma. I guess now that I have this Savage 110BA in 338 Lapua, I'm going to just plan on shooting the heck out of it and revisit the cartridge when it's time...
