Upgrade my 7mm WSM Barrel or Drop $$$ into a 7mm PRC

Even light sporter contour barrels can be threaded for a muzzle device. With minimal shoulder, an adapter can be fixed in place with rocksett or loctite then machined/threaded concentric to the bore- or you can select a brake or can that will index off the flat muzzle instead of a shoulder.

    Does my gunsmith suck?

This was the first thing I noticed... what the actual fuck is that?? I use a narrow grooving tool when I need a relief cut, and go maybe ten thou deeper than the minor thread diameter. This clown cut damn near to the bore...

New Rifle Build - 6.5 PRC or 300 WSM.. or others?

The PRC is ballistically similar to the 6.5 Swede and the 6.5 x .284. At extended ranges, the WSM is going to deliver more energy than the PRC, and this is an important consideration when it comes to Elk.

Savage 10 300 wsm not ejecting

That looks fucked-up. Here's a pic of what the CRF bolthead should look like, your receiver should be as I mentioned above- or you have a mismatched bolthead. If your receiver is not set up with the ejector for CRF, the bolt is mismatched- get a push-feed magnum boltface. Read his post, guys-...

Savage 10 300 wsm not ejecting

You must have one of the old staggered-feed receivers used for the WSM's and UltraMags which used CRF instead of push-feed if there's no ejector in the boltface. Confirm the bottom of your boltface is cut away allowing the case to slide into the extractor? There's a standing ejector (should be...

    JTAC Ranch Closing!

Made the last trip yesterday with my son, got the email today. Said there's an LOI to purchase the land, but I'm sure that's contingent on approvals- and I'm not getting my hopes up. We had a couple of newly acquired milsurps to check out at the 100 yard range before we moved down to the...

    Gunsmithing 1.25” shank with 1.125 action threads…

Partially correct. The shoulder is what allows you to achieve (when done properly) perfect alignment and perpendicularity of the barrel to the receiver ring. Thin metal deforms under excessive stress, right? As an example, consider the typical large ring (K98) Mauser. Receiver is 1.410 in...

    Gunsmithing 1.25” shank with 1.125 action threads…

His concern is that you have 1/2 the shoulder area contact that you'd have with a "standard" 1.062 major diameter on the typical 1.35 receiver. Apparently he's decided an additional 1/16 of steel around the chamber is mo better than the keeping that material for the shoulder, I don't see any...

Gunsmithing Best Muzzle thread Size straight taper barrel

This. Ain't many brakes full 1-1/4" diameter. Having a brake with a diameter smaller than the shoulder looks fucked up. I like Holland's QD for bull barrels.

    Gunsmithing 1/2x28 for .243/6mm???

What T-Rex said. Not a bad idea, but not ideal, either. If you can go 5/8", and still have adequate shoulder- do it. To me, "adequate" depends on the muzzle device. I'll do brakes with as little as .050 shoulder and rely on Rocksett rather than torque (which would deform a minimal shoulder) to...

Gunsmithing Can you Duracoat/Ceracoat anodized Aluminum?

10 year old thread, but... I use an airbrush more than the HVLP gun. HVLP only when I'm doing large items such as stocks. Airbrush is perfect for barreled actions- much less waste of material (smaller pattern). In some multicolor camo patterns, allows me to fade and go heavier with much more...

Gunsmithing Can i get an opinion on this bedding job

Small air bubble voids in a bedding job are cosmetic and inconsequential. You say you "had it bedded but could never get it to shoot". Therein lies the question. Did you have it bedded "new"- before ever shooting it? If not, you have no basis for comparison. Also "if not", could be the stick...

    Do you know this reamer??

Are you using a comparator to set your seating depth/jump? "Match" reamers usually have extended freebore.

    JTAC Ranch Closing!

Well, this REALLY sucks... no place to shoot ELR anywhere in the state now. Often had the precision range literally to ourselves, no RSO's staring over your shoulder, what a dream place to shoot. I don't get it. I mean, there wasn't much infrastructure there, but the access road and berms alone...

    Gunsmithing South Bend 16x72 acquisition

I own a Sheldon and a SB...so big fan of 'Merican iron; but that's a road too far for me. Unless that machine saw very little use back in it's day, scraping isn't going to cut it- if there's a significant wear ridge at the top of the front v-way, the bed will need to be planed, then the...

    Looking for TKIV-85 info, parts?

Customer that I've done some "interesting" projects for in the past emailed me that he acquired a TKIV-85 stock, and the all-important barrel bedding block. That's it... I think I have a hex receiver, but beyond that I have no knowledge of availability of correct parts (if any). Barrel print...
