    1/2" is pretty skinny for a .30 cal. I've done them, just not a fan- and that's 1/2"-28. 1/2"-20 is awfully coarse... will remove another .017 or so from the barrel wall thickness, doesn't sound like much but I'd keep all I could. I've never seen a 1/2"-20t brake... JMOYMMV

    If it's really caked on I give it a soak in some Carb-Out, but I try to not neglect them for that long. I have a short length of capped pipe that I pour it in, then hang the rifle upside down to soak the brake in it.
