    What effect does shortening a barrel have?

    I have two rifles with 20" barrels, one came that way, one I had a gunsmith shorten. When working up a load for them, do you still start with the starting loads on tables? i.e. does using a shorter barrel allow you to move up the tables and use more powder to start with?

    Can you shorten a fluted barrel?

    I have a 26" fluted barrel. I would prefer a 22" or 20" barrel. With the flutes I can only shorten it to about 24" without cutting in to the flutes. Can you shorten a barrel into the flutes part of the barrel? I have never seen one that way, but don't know if it is even possible. Thx.
