Thoughts on the Aero Precision SOLUS ?

If the street prices end up as far below MSRP as their other products, they will have a big winner on their hands. Plus, more origin prefits for me.

Aero Precision Bolt Gun Teaser (Now newly announced SABR thread)

I'm sure I've already said it, but look at Aeros stuff when they have MAP holidays. Dealers go rock bottom on pricing. Buying direct from aero is rarely the best way to get their products. If street prices vs MSRP matches their other stuff these will be a lot cheaper in a year or two. Same for...

Any M1 Garand experts out there, I need help

Takes 30 seconds to change the spring. I did it immediately upon getting mine and the difference was noticeable. Your listed load of 46.0 IMR4895 is below Hodgdon's starting load and could be part of the issue.

    Help selecting an action

Happy to recommend big horn, even with the Origin having gone up in price in recent years. The last one I got is nitrided and very nice. Selling point right now is the number of used prefits around between savage and origin and TL3 (with the HLR lug). The new Aero action coming out is going to...

    Barrel Install

An ounce of Permatex is a lifetime supply for barrels for most guys. Hard to not justify the $5.50.

Reloading zone in Golden has had them in and out of stock recently

    $1000 6.5 CM rifle

Tons of drop shippers selling the CTR for under $1,000 shipped. Blued version seems to be under $900, gives you room for shipping and transfer and still be under your budget. If you're only shooting out to 450 yards I'd look really hard at the 223 CTR. Throw a brake on and your bad shoulder will...

    6.5 and 308 bullet selection

I've had good luck with solid copper bullets but you need to keep the velocity up. With your shorter barrels and shots likely 150 and in I'd be perfectly happy running a regular cup and core bullet. Hornady interlocks or similar at those ranges/velocities will get the job done on deer easily. A...

    SPR barrel suggestions?

Another WOA talk like a pirate day sale SPR barrel order here, quoted 10-12 weeks, received in 4. Under promise, over deliver. Haven't shot it yet, but I'm not worried about how it shoots.

Aero Precision Bolt Gun Teaser (Now newly announced SABR thread)

If you look at Aero's other MSRP pricing and what stuff goes for on black friday (or just regular street price), an MSRP of $1k means street price is very very competitive. If the discounts run as deep as their regular stuff and it takes origin prefits....definitely grabbing one down the road...

Budget LPVO or solid red dot?

If your budget goes to $500 you can definitely grab a PST 1-6 on sale easily. I'm very happy with mine for the money. I shoot mine both eyes open at 1x and the 6x helps stretch things out further than I would easily take a red dot.

    223 Trainer Build

When your budget allows the origin and a prefit is the way to go. Save up and grab a prefit on black Friday. I got my 223 prefit from PVA on black Friday last year. I have two of the earlier origins and one with the newer stainless bolt models. New ones are even smoother than the early ones.

    6.5PRC and IMR 4831

Hodgdon has data on their website and Hornady has it on their app for $1. It works ok, nothing stellar but still perfectly acceptable for hunting or practice at the range. If it's what you have I'd work up a few loads with it. I've had luck with 147s and use it to sight it after I've swapped my...

Manners Composite Stocks Estimated Lead Times

Some sand paper around a socket, go slow and you'll have it done in 10-15. Clean the area of dust and apply a coat of paint to reseal the area. That's how I've always done it.

    Refurbishing or new rifle?

If you're happy with the action, stock, trigger, have a new barrel put on and start working on shooting that one out.

    Lapua 6.5CM Decapping pin?

I just chucked a lee universal pin up in a drill press and hit it with some sand paper until it was small enough. Took about 5 minutes, die is $12, and they sell replacement pins.

    WOA Bartlin barrel 7.5 $125

Good on them for using the extra blank left over from a service rifle barrel for something. That being said, my ears aren't interested in a 7.5" barrel, even if it's cut rifled and dirt cheap.

    Osprey Barrel Works

I have barrels from both and my PVAs shoot better by a good margin. I definitely wouldn't pay more for the Preferred. When I got my Preferred they were $350 for a shouldered prefit and it made sense at that price. $150 more than a PVA tube? Hard pass.

    Which OEM Action?

Tikka for OEM, but if you drop $700 on a Tikka, pull the barrel, throw the stock and trigger out..... Then you paid $700 for the action. Pretty darn close to an Origin, more expensive than a Mac Bros Evo.

Short action specifically: 6.5 SAUM, PRC, or SS?

6.5 PRC would be the front runner for me. Brass will be hard to find for all rounds you've listed, but easiest for the PRC. Lapua brass, whatever dies you could possibly want, good selection of load data, etc. I'm running mine in a short action with a wyatts extended box. Even from a BDL it...
