    USSOCOM ELR-SR

Effective range of 2500 yards and accuracy needs sometimes don’t fall hand in hand. 2500 yards is nothing to sneeze at, and not as easy as some may imply. I think it’s a tough/challenging request given the shorthand system component list. As someone with 8 years of 416 experience …. The...

    2nd Opinion (ELR Build)

An ELR observation for the OP … Take your WM and enter a ELR light class competition. Enjoy it and be prepared to learn alot about your current system, your abilities and equipment used by others. The definition of performance will be better defined at the match versus in a forum. Do not go...

Gunsmithing Any thoughts on structured barrels?

840 rounds yes … but, more importantly it hasn’t changed in the life of the barrel. Clean cold bore … or cold bore. Zero group size is very good. I have documented this from the beginning. I use a borescope for a number of reasons. At 840 rounds … I have fire cracking 4” into the bore. To...

Gunsmithing Any thoughts on structured barrels?

John … I don’t have your intellect …. Nor, the remainder of all those who have replied over the last 5 pages. I’ve read everyone of them. Two and three syllable words have come out of the woodworks. It seems a majority are more interested in damaging the man’s character and integrity. John...

Gunsmithing Any thoughts on structured barrels?

I agree with the gain twist premise. I’ve used one on all of my competition barrels since 2017. Most have been Bartlein …. Now, all are K&S gain twists. Structured …. At that. Seems to have worked for me in the ELR game. Chris Schmidt Tennesssee

Gunsmithing Any thoughts on structured barrels?

I’m one of the idiots he talks about. I believe in the technology … I use the technology. Seems to have worked well for me. Yes, John is a friend of mine, BUT I will stand in front, by his side and behind his work. His work has been forefront of the ELR success that I’ve experienced, and it...

    Getting into long range shooting

You can over spend on long range (1000 yd) equilment, and some equipment for ELR ….. BUT, you can’t overdo it with a scope. Don’t short cut the scope. Spend the $. You will appreciate it. Cheers and best of luck. 1000 yard goals become 1500 yd wishes real fast, and you will be wanting...

Gunsmithing Any thoughts on structured barrels?

If John is a snake oil salesman …. I’ll take a gallon of what he’s selling/developing. I use one … will use another one. If I were John, I wouldn’t even come on this medium. Why the hell would any manufacturer come on here.

    High BC or Transitional Stability?

Solid vs Core has more to do with twist rate. Faster twist … heavy stable solid bullet at distance = magic if you do all other things well. All of my Bartlein barrels have done well with solids given the appropriate twist is used. I.e. 416 - 550 grain projectile - 1:8 twist.

    High BC or Transitional Stability?

Always the more stable bullet. Shouldn’t even be a question in your mind. If it ain’t stable …. You ain’t hitting it.

30 cal vs 338 cal.. elr light gun & king of 1 mile

You will need a faster twist rate with a solid. Go with a solid, and keep it simple. Slowest powder /heaviest solid projectile in relation to your specific caliber will work and work well within your capabilities. Twist rate for a solid vs an a tip may be vastly different. Do some research...

Gunsmithing Any thoughts on structured barrels?

John Baker is a highly intelligent man …. Way further up the chain than I. The structured barrel that I have has really been special, and we are in the process of getting additional barrels ready for the next couple years of ELR. The three biggest differences that I have seen compared to my...

Spotters Best Value in ELR/XLR Spotting Scopes?

Kowa Big eyes, Oberwerk, swaro 95MM ….. As for reticle, I tell my spotter width/height of target in Mils prior to shooting …. You get really good calling corrections without a reticle. Swaro STR80 is lacking compared to the bino 95mm’s. No shortcut on spotting scope and tripod! You’re going...

    JJ Rock ELR Draft

I fail to understand why the need for a thread. Jon Geib and I remain good friends. We both served in the75th Ranger Regiment, and that blood kinship is far deeper than a ELR team. I wish you luck, but further information is really not required other than opportunities exist for which I couldn’t...

    375 Cheytac flattening Fed 215s

Jeff Six team rifles ... all with N570 in the morning and late in the afternoon with hang fires, and we weren’t using a hvy 375 variant projectile. 400’s would be even worse. It didn’t matter what time of day.
