    New scotch recommendations?

Re: New scotch recommendations? While the Islay whiskeys are tradionally known for smoke & peat (some used to or still do heat the buildings with peat), in recent years a few of them have toned down the peat in favor of a lighter, sweeter taste (like Bruichladdich, which I also suggest tasting).

    New scotch recommendations?

Re: New scotch recommendations? For those that do enjoy smoke, try McCarthy's 3-year old single malt scotch. Very smooth with a hint of campfire. Don't let the fact that this scotch is created in Oregon fool you. Murphy rates it 94 points in his Whiskey Bible.

    New scotch recommendations?

Re: New scotch recommendations? You're right on with Famous Grouse (also try the Famous Grouse Black - nice). Nothing wrong with the blends - it's all good. I prefer to drink neat, but will add a few ice chips with the cask strength whiskeys; opens up the scotch and really brings out the...

    New scotch recommendations?

Re: New scotch recommendations? You bet - the Doublewood is always great and priced under $50 (here at least). The Balvanie Caribbean Cask 14 year is another outstanding scotch, although priced at about $60 at my local provider.

    New scotch recommendations?

Re: New scotch recommendations? There are a lot of fines malts to be had. Kasumi brought over Monkey Shoulder the other night (under $30) which is a blend - part Balvanie - and outstanding. Love scotch.......

Re: Springfield Armory Rufused to sell Like Kasumi, I'm here in New York too & not a happy camper. But, you wait; you know those slimy politicians in other states (mainly, the liberal eastern states) are going to try to out do Cuomo.

    17yr old Scotch!!

Re: 17yr old Scotch!! OK scotch lovers - here is something to consider: I just read this AM in our local rag about the rising influence of JAPANESE scotch (both blended & single malts). Apparantly they have been at it for quite awhile. The "featured" scotch was Yamazaki Single malt (12...

    17yr old Scotch!!

Re: 17yr old Scotch!! Thanks once again to Kasumi: Try Auchentoshan ("Och'ntosh'n") - a classic Lowland Malt, triple distilled. Very smooth, light, 80 proof, very little peat, short though pleasant finish. And, better yet, you should be able to find it for $30, more or less. More scotch...

    17yr old Scotch!!

Re: 17yr old Scotch!! Some single malts I've enjoyed in recent months: Balvenie 12 Aberlour 12 (for me, a little too much smoke) Highland Park 12 Oban 14 (oh yes) Dalwhinnie 15 (very light, smooth) Glenrothes (a gift, and it's good) Tomatin (good & not expensive) Former bourban drinker...

    17yr old Scotch!!

Re: 17yr old Scotch!! Kasumi turned me on to Tomatin - I was doubtful - but he is right on; this scotch is good ! Very similar (in my opinion) to Balvenie in many ways. If you like this kind of single malt scotch, you can't go wrong for the price. Drink on.............
