We had some gun troubles today amongst a few of our regular shooters. Also, we mixed in some others to enjoy the fun as well. (Bobby, Fred, Claudia, Dan, Megan, Tim, and Jenny too!)

Thanks to all!

Re: Results Odessa FV200 F-Class May 1st

I am home today, recuperating, licking wounds. Not from the match but from the massive 'malling' that followed. My Wife had me empty the car of shooting stuff, reload it with her wheelchair, and we took our Granddaughter 'E' (for Elena Marie) shopping for a dress and shoes.

Granddaughter is 13 and adamantly opposed to wearing anything that looks even vaguely feminine. Had to buy her two pairs of jeans before we could even coax her in the general direction of the misses' dress department at Kohl's. There followed try-ons, cell photo exchanges with her Mom, oodles of Olympic class eye rolling and the repeated vocalizations sounding sorta like "Gaaack!". I don't know, I'm still not that fluent in Contemporary Conversational Thirteen...

No matter...

By 6:00PM, we were still precisely nowhere, in Target now, and determined to press onward to TJ Maxx. Mom was inbound, we were ingesting Franks and Pepsi, and my Wife turned to me and offered me an out. Mom would get them home.

True and confirmed coward that I am, I nodded once, beamed, and bolted.

My work there was DONE!

I'm now a chastened and better educated shopping stooge. ("But Grampy, you know I love you...!!!". There can be but one reply. Yipes!).

Oh yes, and back on topic; I'm generally pleased with our match despite what might appear a dismal performance on my part. I've been unable to do much practice lately due to the timely emergence of the 'Spring Honey-Do list'. This year, it's an out and out doozie. There's the repair of roofing and plumbing catastrophes that have been 'lick and a promise' patched and now need to be addressed in a more competent manner. There are literally weeks of labor facing me. It's daunting, and any edging toward the range is regarded with a baleful eye by 'She who must be obeyed'.

There's also a (now resolved) drought of .222 brass. The drought was shattered by the gradual acquisition of 5 boxes of Remington 50gr Core-Lokt Express ammo from 3 different Wall-Mart over the past two months. This was what ammo I employed yesterday. There were flyers. Of course. It's me, remember?

But I had simply abandoned any intentions related to scores in advance, and used the event yesterday as a shakedown and re tempering session. I worked on my position, my support, and my trigger work. While the score may say otherwise, I felt somewhat reassured by what I was able to glean from the experience. In point of fact, some relationships become clearer, and results began to correspond to efforts. The last two targets looked a bitty bit better than the first two.

Me Thinketh that Madam Accuracy may be grudgingly beginning to edge her gaze in my direction.

It's a dream, at least.

The auguries vaguely proclaim some hope that better ammunition may render better results.

Like I said..., a dream...

Greg

PS Odds are high that I will be absent next match, Mothers' day and all... It follows quick upon the heels of the prior day, which will contain both the (Gaaack!)64th anniversary of mine own nativity, and my littlest Granddaughter Kaycee's christening. If I stir at all, it will probably be to nurse a world class hangover.

Re: Results Odessa FV200 F-Class May 1st

Thanks once again to Scotty, Greg and the Odessa Club for hosting another fun match. And what a beautiful day to boot !

Although I too may have to miss the June match, I'm there for July.

Re: Results Odessa FV200 F-Class May 1st

Sorry I missed this one Scott. But some extenuating circumstances forced an early Mother's Day weekend. I still don't know why my finger itched yesterday?

I should be good for the next one! And hopefully with some rifle issues ironed out and some new loads to boot.

Re: Results Odessa FV200 F-Class May 1st

Thanks Scott, as always a great time. Winds picked up every once and a while, kind of swirling around. Flags going full value in both directions, one at 100yd another at 200yd.

With the two weeks I had leading up to the match I was sure to shoot a 110 2V. Nice to see the fundamentals kicked in and got me through the match. Got a suggestion on how to improve too, now thats worth the price of admission.

Re: Results Odessa FV200 F-Class May 1st

Yes well, you're welcome and all that; but this is pretty much all Scotty's show. I do what I can and these days that's as little as I can get away with.

My shooting's been going through a slump as I try to adapt to some significant physical developments over the past few years. For me, these matches are invaluable and essential. I think it remains to be seen whether my capacities will return. Meanwhile it's all a bit of an exploration in unknown territory. While it would be far easier to fold my tent and transfer all my energies to my model aircraft; I feel that I owe it to myself, and maybe a few others, to see this through to an inescapable conclusion.

It's not that it's so difficult, or so frustrating, it's simply a matter of redeploying the learning process again from scratch, then discovering and applying the adaptations that deliver the former success.

For those for whom this has some personal meaning, I'll say that the issue appears to be that although the basics don't change, the muscle memory is altered; sometimes subtly, and sometimes it's blatant. In addition to the learning, there's also the unlearning. There's a bit of suppressed anger sometimes, but it's at the conditions, and not objects or creatures.

I believe there's value to derived from the process, and I hope I can not only master it, but retain enough from the process to pass it on to those for whom it can be of some benefit.

If this past match's experience is indicative, there's still some things to learn and some lessons are clearly delivering. I'm actually rather pleased this time around.

Greg

PS, Just checked with the Wife. Mothers' Day is the week before the match. D'oh!
