    Re: rem 700 bolt tear down problems One other thing, when re-assembling, make sure that the holes in the cocking piece and the firing pin line up correctly. They are not always drilled in the center and you maty have to rotate one or the other line the holes up.

    Re: scope base hole drilled off center? I find it hard to believe the smith was at fault. Even a dummy could drill out an existing hole to a bigger size and not have it out that far; the drill will follow the old hole and maybe run out a bit, but not that far.
