Ah, got it now, the Stiller has a 0.050" bigger diameter and is longer too. Ok, I know which way to go for a .338 Lapua build. Thanks guys for all the great information.
I guess that's what I don't understand. The custom action manufacturers create receivers that fit into a standard long action stock and they normally have bigger threads for the barrel. So how are they maintaining the dimensions to fit in a standard long action stock, receive a barrel with...
It looks like L.E. Wilson actually makes a VLD seating stem, L.E. Wilson Chamber Type Seater Die VLD Bullet Seating Plug Drift. I'm going to give that a try, thanks guys for pointing it out to me :). Hopefully, it will solve my problem.
I started reloading 6.5 Creedmoor with 140gr A-Max bullets and I'm using the L.E. Wilson bullet seater. When I seat the bullets it's leaving a big dent in the bullet (please see picture). The brass is new, .290 outside neck diameter. The two rounds that I've loaded ends up being .291 outside...
I have no idea how to take it apart so I don't know if the spring is in backwards or not, the front of the follower has plenty of pressure but the rear isn't being pushed up enough even without a round loaded into it.
Has anyone seen an AI mag do this before? It's like the spring isn't pushing up the rear of the follower. Anybody know how to fix it? If there's only 1 round in the magazine it won't feed. This is a new magazine that came with my Surgeon bottom metal.
On the .260 142g SMK box, it says they are designed for 1:8 twist barrel. Is it worth running them through a 1:8.5 barrel or would another weight bullet be a better choice?
You guys are great! I've got some PTG headspace gages on order, just so I can verify and make sure it's not a gage issue. Who knows, the gage that Mega used could be out of tolerance as well, anything's possible. I will also try Wiley's suggestion too, if I can get brass that will seat with...
I do handload my own ammo :). I will try to find some Federal cases and will measure like you said to see if I'm crushing the case, thanks for the suggestion. This whole thing does honestly make me feel uneasy, measuring headspace on a bolt gun is so much easier, lol.
Since I've been home, this is what I've done. I put the rifle together and put the GO gage in the chamber, brought the bolt back half way and let it go, this did not work so I tried it with the full spring pressure of the buffer spring and it closed successfully on the GO gage. I repeated the...
I don't currently have another set of gauges, would you recommend a set, maybe the PTG gauges? I don't have any issues buying new gauges. I will try the method you described tonight when I get home and see if thumb pressure will work. If I can't get it to work, maybe I'll take some video so I...
I took the bolt completely apart (removing the extractor and the ejector) so there would be no resistance when I checked if the GO gauge was really a go. I'm using the Forster .308 family of GO/No GO gauges from Sinclair. When I spoke to the guy at Mega, he said they test them by using some...
