Gunsmithing Removing a stuck 10/22 barrel.

Re: Removing a stuck 10/22 barrel. Had the same problem about a year ago. Head to the hardware store, pick up some 1/4" threaded stock, a standard nut and a deep nut. Taper threaded stock to fit inside bore, snug standard nut to barrel face and use deep nut to push out from inside rear...

    Crimp Dies?

Are crimp dies worth using? I just bought a 3-pack of lee dies in .223 and they came with a crimp die. Is it worth using the crimp die to "improve uniform start pressures" ? Thanks, Jay

    Gunsmithing Remington 700 action question

Probably a stupid question, but aside from the bolt, are there any differences between a 700 action from a .223 that would prevent it being used on a .308 build? Thanks in advance!

    RRA Varmint Report+Question

So I just got my RRA 20" varmint in .223 put together, worked up a few loads and took it out to the range. Saw some wildly varying groups and got some that I thought were pretty good. Turned out that my best groups were with 60gr Nosler BTs sitting on 25gr of Varget running around 2650fps...

    Another Reason I Hate Unions

Re: Another Reason I Hate Unions I can only speak about the unions that I run across in my line of work (petrochemical industry) but for the most part, all they do is cause massive bloat. Electricians, pipefitters, operators etc. are all contract positions whenever the companies can afford...

    Gunsmithing Bergara barrels?

Re: Bergara barrels? Er, crap...how do I delete a post? Went to use the search function and found an older post that got a few people riled up. I don't want to make a mess lol!

    Gunsmithing Bergara barrels?

Anyone got any experience with them? I'm going to rebarrel a 700 in .308 for a deer\hog rifle and want to use a pre-threaded short-chambered sporter contour barrel. Price on the Bergaras and Shilens is about the same. I don't expect benchrest performance out of this build, just want...

On her wedding night, staying at her mother's house, sweet Clarabell was nervous. But mother reassured her. "Don't worry, Clarabell. Boudreaux's a...

Gunsmithing Barrel Work in a Lathe

Re: Barrel Work in a Lathe Yeah, kinda figured the 4 jaw. Oh well, if you want it done right... Any tips on how to keep the jaws from marring the barrel up? I've heard sandpaper wrapped rough side out, but it seems to me that the barrel would slip or paper would just tear.

Gunsmithing Barrel Work in a Lathe

Re: Barrel Work in a Lathe There we go, as complete as it's going to get. Google told me about "this place" when I was searching for tips on some other projects.

Gunsmithing Barrel Work in a Lathe

I'm about to start on my first build with a threaded and "pre-chambered" Shilen barrel I picked up. Planning on cutting a few inches off and recrowning, along with taking some off the shoulder so I can properly rechamber. I've got some experience machining but none where finish mattered. Any...

Re: First time duracoater. Don't be too hard on me. Looks good Doc! Just finished my first duracoat project myself, slapped some OD on the frame of one of them "plastic pistols". If I figure out how, I'll post some pics.
