I need to neck turn my resized 6.5 Grendel brass for 22 ARC. The fired brass did not fully expand to let a bullet fall thru a freshly fired brass cartridge. I had 3.5 thou of neck tension. I looks like I got about 1.5 thou of neck expansion. The Grendel brass has a neck thickness of about 15...
Thank you. I had the cartridge sammi spec on one page and failed to look at the chamber spec sheet. Thank you for pointing this out. Guess I need to email Rainer and say….never mind.
22 ARC SAMMI specs show headspace specs as 1.220 - .007. Fired factory Hornady brass measures 1.224. New barrel from Rainer Arms. Thinking chamber is to long by .004. Checked with a few others on FB group and most were getting 1.217 after firing. Unfired Hornady brass is 1.215. This increase is...
You are correct using the hornady brass. I got my hands on some neck down 6.5 Starline that has neck wall thickness of 15 thou. This is my math, let me know if I screwed up. .224 + .030 = .254. .254 - .247 = .007. Then mandrel open another 3-4 thou. With Hornady brass .224 + .022 = .246. .246...
So the 6.5 bushing die will work. I calculated that I need a .247 bushing then I can use a mandrel to open neck to about 4 thou tension. You don’t think pushing the neck back 9 thou is to much, do you?
I just measured fired brass to compare to new. Headspace on unfired was 1.213. Fired was 1.223. With the Hornady die I pushed the shoulder back to 1.214. This brought the neck size down to .222 giving 2 thou tension. Did not run expander ball as it mic’ed out at .223. This would give only 1...
JP got back with me. Recommended MAP gas. Stated they do not recommend heat gun/hair dryer as it’s heats up a broad area vs directed heat where you need it.
The hand guard is on its way. I’m not for sure yet what the sloping rearward portion is made of yet. Was hoping someone had one to let me know. If it’s all metal, then should be no problem. Just concerned that the nut is mated with an outer polymer cover.
Getting ready to install my new Rainer Arms barrel. The fitment is extremely tight. Have experienced this before and using heat plus freezing barrel always works. The problem this time is I’m installing s JP Mk 3 hand guard and the barrel nut needs to go on before the barrel is inserted. This...
On your 21 inch barrel, what size handguard are you using. I just ordered a rainier arms 22” ultra match barrel. It has a rifle +1 gas system. Was going to go with an .875 Odin works low profile adjustable gas block under their 17.5 O2 handguard. I’ve started buying up as much factory rounds as...
Odin work’s recommendations using a standard carbine buffer. They said a H1 if running suppressed. If using a rifle length they say use a low mass buffer assy (3oz).
So jumping on the 22 ARC bandwagon. 18” barrel through Odin Works. Probably 8-10 weeks out. I know it’s early in the process, but any ideas on buffer system/weight. What i have seen so far in the literature (which is very sparse), should be similar to 6 ARC.
That makes sense, should have thought of that first. Feel like a dummy. I’ll feel them out and run my bore scope down and look at the barrel side of the lugs. Any recommendations on the best way to dress them up. Thanks.
New 6.5 upper. Any idea on where these gouges come from. Was thinking feed ramp, but didn’t see any burrs or sharp edges. The are on every casing that was shot.
