Hello, This lathe can do from 8 threads per inch all the way up to 72 threads per inch, so it will do 16 threads per inch, but this lathe is way to small to do rifle barrels, You will need a 12x40 at least to do any serious rifle barreling jobs. is this the lathe? Grizzly.com

Re: Consequences of putting .311 down .308 bbl? Most likely absolutely nothing. The Ruger mini 30 has been launching bullets of .310 and .311 diameter from hot surplus steel cased ammo for about the last 20 years out of a .308 diameter barrel with no problems. But that is just my opinion here...

Re: 308 Brake depends on barrel dia at muzzle, you need .625 at least to install a 5/8x24 brake and really need more so it has something to tighten against.
