new machine looks good! we've had great luck with Leadwell CNC's. there are many to choose from no, i THINK a micron is 1/100,000"? someone help me out here. our machine shop only deals down to .0001" or "tenths"

like anything else, there are many ways to do it. i bed front and back at the same time. some prep work can let you know what you need. tighten the front of the base only and see if that raises the back of the action, repeat for the back screws. then you know if you need to only tighten one end...

a friend helping me had some silicone mold release spray that worked well. i'm gonna go with kiwi's next time when i do one

i'd go for something bigger than 338 lapua. since you already have a 300wm, i think something in .375, or .408 or .50 would be better

many good ring makers, seekins, tps, aadland etc rings are important, but i think what the rings attach to, and what scope gets put in them is more important than what brand the rings are

Re: Need precise measurement ... engineers, techs help as was mentioned: tighten the adjuster screws. i've seen $200+ calipers being off by .003" just because they weren't adjusted. that said, calipers are really only good for +/- .001" you need micrometers to be very precise

Re: Need to pick you guy's brains? i doubt threading the barrel and action will help. a higher quality barrel with good ammo will be your best bet to better groups. a good trigger and good shooter don't hurt either

Re: What's the best way to shorten action screws? i normally use a grinder if there isn't too much to take off, or chuck it in the lathe if i need to remove more than .125". then just touch it up on the belt sander and its GTG!

Re: New rings i don't really like the concept of the arc m10 rings. just more pivot points for things to go wrong. the aadland rings are built like a brick shithouse though!

Re: Vortex 4-16 FFP vs 6-24 FFP i'd go with the 4-16. unless you're going for a little more of a long range build. then again, plenty of people have shot well at long range with a fixed 10x

Re: Moderately Priced Scope Rings? i just picked up a set of weaver tactical's for my .308 i just don't feel like spending $100 or more for a pair of rings right now

Re: Scope questions for 22LR i really like 3-4x for the lowest power. i shoot things with my 22 from 10 yards on up. anything higher powered is kinda a pain.
