Gunsmithing How many times can I use the same degreaser? ~ Cerakote ~

If it reacts anything like gasoline, can't that be dangerous? or is it not as flamable?

    Gunsmithing Cerakote question

I agree... If you look back at the history of the instructions of cerakote application I have found where the directions as far as temp /time goes have varied significantly.... I don't think it has to be perfect. What is probably more important is that your air that you are using is dry...

Gunsmithing How many times can I use the same degreaser? ~ Cerakote ~

Thanks bro! I only got 5 gallons of the stuff and it came in 1 gal plastic milk jugs... I just drained it back into them when done... How u just have to figure out how to dispose of it!

    Gunsmithing Cerakote question

I also picked up a food warmer oven for around $400. I could stand in it if I wanted (if I stooped down). It's got a pretty big chamber. I got a PID controller, figured out how to set the settings (off of a home brew forum) and I was all set! The nice thing about it is that it has a fluorescent...

    Gunsmithing Cerakoting bolts?

True. As long as it's not a custom built bolt action I would think you would be more than safe doing the bolt body if you leave the lugs alone. I wouldn't paint the lugs unless you mic'd it. If you really wanted to be on the safe side you could go with Cerakote's Microslick, it's about a quarter...

Gunsmithing How many times can I use the same degreaser? ~ Cerakote ~

just wanted to give some feedback! So I followed a new plan this last batch. right now, until I can get a parkerizing tank, I am using an engine parts tank for degreasing purposes (has a drain built in to the bottom of it). So I bought a gallon of Simple Green and diluted it 3-1 with hot...

Gunsmithing How many times can I use the same degreaser? ~ Cerakote ~

Hehe, you guys have been great! Thanks for all the advise and pointers! I'm doing an ar this weekend... I'll try to post pics when done! Last question (hopefully!) how do you dispose of the methanol when done with it? I assume with acetone you can just let it evaporate, but it would not appear...

Gunsmithing How many times can I use the same degreaser? ~ Cerakote ~

Sorry to quote you again, but I though it was interesting the order you went in... I have caught myself doing similar to what you do with the order, but doesn't NIC recommend to degrease, blast, THEN gas out? But to me this doesn't make sense because then you can possibly contaminate your...

Gunsmithing How many times can I use the same degreaser? ~ Cerakote ~

cool thanks. I wonder if it's chevron 325... seems to be pretty popular for degreasing. regardless what I use, I really like the dual dunk method to ensure everything is gone!

Gunsmithing How many times can I use the same degreaser? ~ Cerakote ~

thanks man that's great! I just found a "parkerizing tank" that already has a valve built in but it's much more expensive... what do you mean that acetone is "cleaner"... LongRifles Inc. here on snipershide recommended "pitching the acetone" completely. Does the methanol racing fuel leave any...

Gunsmithing How many times can I use the same degreaser? ~ Cerakote ~

the problem with kg3 is that it is in a spray can and you can't buy it by the gallon... following NIC's instructions there would be no way I would use this, they require a soak, not just a spray. the prep sol looks like a more harsh cleaner where the limco is just prior to painting, correct...

Gunsmithing How many times can I use the same degreaser? ~ Cerakote ~

I have a 5 gal jug of brake kleen that I have been using for about 4-5 weapons but none of them have been AK's. So what do you guys do and how much can you re-use it before your parts become contaminated in their own degreaser?

Gunsmithing Need advise on quality airbrush for Cerakote application

to me it makes a huge difference... Of course I have only used the cheap $15 lvlp guns from harbor freight. What I have found is that the QC on them is extremely inconsistent. One will allow too much paint through whereas another won't let enough through. Not only that, but they break pretty...

Gunsmithing Need advise on quality airbrush for Cerakote application

Thanks! Yeah, it is laser and it is extremely precise... it controls the depth perfectly. The only issue I have ran into so far is that if the sheet is rippled (or bubbled up and not perfectly flat) then the laser won't cut as deep as it needs to. But it hasn't been a big deal, it still cuts it...

    Gunsmithing Spray Gun

A couple quick questions... what type of "wash thinner" do you use? is that the label on the shelf? also, when you say "Brush the inside a few times to get the big stuff." you mean brush in the hole where the paint reservoir/cup had been screwed into, correct?

Gunsmithing Need advise on quality airbrush for Cerakote application

Hey LR thanks for the post! A few notes/questions... as far as an AB goes, I am wanting it so I can do graphics/designs/camo in combination with stencils for cool effects. Are you saying that you don't think I would need this? Some of the artwork on pistols & rifles is amazing and I don't see...

Gunsmithing Need advise on quality airbrush for Cerakote application

This is a great help... thanks for the feedback! I'm not wanting to "switch back and forth" persay, I just don't want to clean my HVLP between each color change. I want to clean them all at once at the end to save time. Plus, what if I want to go back and overlay a certain color? I have to...
