This may be a stupid question as I've never used a thermal before. I see this is stated for use as a 'night hunting' scope. Do these not work during the day? i.e. your trying to tease something out from cover, (animal in the brush). Is there not enough temp separation between breathing things...
I've carried for many years. I use a SmartCarry holster (absolutely no affiliation), and I know there are other good holsters. I like this one because it fits well w/ an extended clip and laser. It is not unusual that I will have to check to make sure I remembered to put it on. Only complaint is...
As suggested here are the pics of my setup. Both with the pvs 'slide to side' and inline. There are very close together, so close that I have to slide to side the pvs to operate the eotech, then slide back inline. I may try the next 'notch' out for the eotech to get a bit more room and see what...
Wow SP, that is some interesting info and explains a lot. Very interesting also that much above 900nm a genIII tube isn't going to see much, which would seem to make an 850nm device (illuminator/pointer) a lot more attractive.
I truly appreciate all of the help suggested to get this working correctly. The above suggestion hit my particular problem. I have a pole light that was probably 30ft behind me and didn't throw any light into my field of view, but it did 'bounce' off the eotech back into the pvs-14. After...
Good thoughts. I've got them both mounted on the rail but a bit more than 1/4" in between I think - I'll have to measure that tonight. The pvs-14 is on a slide to side qd mount. Both work fine indepentandly. But when I slide the pvs-14 in-line with eotech the sight picture narrows down...
I'm having problems getting a good useful field of view when putting a pvs-14 behind an eotech. The eotech has the nv function and keeps the reticle from blooming. But my fov is only a fraction when used together compared to that of either the pvs-14 or the eotech alone. I can only see the...
Thanks for the insight. You have a lot more experience w yotes than I do. The time I got busted I was in a stand actually hunting pigs. This yote came right up to my duck hutch about 75 yds off and started gazing at dinner. Great conditions - no moon and overcast. I turned on my illuminator to...
I haven't seen anything on this so I thought I'd start this post. I'm looking for a good IR illuminator for NV critter hunting - mainly yotes. There is a lot of good info on illuminators but my question is on the wavelength. I've used a Surefire M952 which I have been told the IR is 850nm (not...
I am somewhat familiar with IR night vision equipment, but not thermal. I am in the market for a thermal unit and would like some input. From most of what I’ve read the best bang for the buck is to use thermal for scanning and then IR for identification and targeting. My use is for hogs and...
Yes, as has been stated ATN does not get much love in most of the forums. I got a great deal on a MARS 2.5 - 4 and couldn't resist. I don't have a ton of NV experience but own a omniVIII pvs-14 (gen 3+ if I'm not mistaken). I also know this is not apples to apples. But the MARS unit outperforms...
I tried searching for this but didn't find anything. I have a friend that is having an AR built that includes a Nightforce NXS scope. As with most of the parts of the build, the scope is a 'special only available to military and law enforcement'. It has special glass, a special shock tube, etc...
