Kind of hard to tell from the picture, but is the objetive bell (scope cover) touching the barrel. If it is touching, I would find a way to make some clearance. Either remove the cover or try some taller rings. This may be part of the problem.
Looks good. I think I'm going to give this a try on my Manners stock. I would think that Devcon plastic steel putty should work just as well as the marine tex. Thanks for the tutorial.
Now that the base is bedded you have one less thing to worry about. I bed all of my bases and ream or lap the rings for maxinum contact with the scope tube.

HP-38 or W231 I use 5.4 to 5.6 under a 200 gr. lead SWC, Federal or CCI standard LP primers, mixed brass. The load is more accurate than I can shoot it.
Re: Savage 7mm Problems with pics - Help! It is kind of hard to tell from the pictures, but is the objective bell touching the rail. Also, looks like may be the power ring is touching the rail. If either one of these is happening, the I would try higher rings.
