A little late to this thread, but I figured I'd chime in with my results. Bottom line: both work. I became a believer in tuners from my time shooting ARA rimfire benches at a local club. I prefer the ATS for the flexibility of running whichever brake / muzzle device I prefer (Area 419...
Possibly. Do weapon systems / components survive demil intact enough to use though? I have a DRMO down the street, but I don't know if they would appreciate me asking lol.
'daww....well....shucks. Thanks. I actually just swapped some of my scopes around, and the Midas came off in favor of another SWFA, identical to the camo rifle. I'm trying to standardize as much as I can, and I really like that older model SWFA. Putting it through its paces tomorrow at Triple...
Loaded up 10 rounds of a known good load. 135 Berger Classics over 43gr of H4350 in 6.5 Creedmoor. Also let my son and wife help out at the bench some. She's excited because she gets to shoot her batch tomorrow, and it'll be her first batch ever. My son is nearly 4 so he's just excited to help...
So, something I'm not clear on....what's the forming process for a 6.5 Sherman? Is it fireforming/hydraulic, or just a pass or two through some dies? Just curious more than anything. I'm mostly unfamiliar with it, other than knowing it's 30-06ish-based and exists.
Another source of brass would be great. Hornady 280ai brass (which is what I have) seems to get mixed reviews, but the Norma brass is significantly more expensive. I wish Starline and Alpha would get with the program
Less powder with good velocity would be awesome. I already have 6.5 Creedmoor in both short and long barrels, so basically I'm covering 2200 - 2800 fps... but the idea of sending a 140-155 grain bullet at 3k+ fps is tempting to say the least. 5 mils at 1k would be amazing. I'll give RL23 a...
I was looking at 6.5-06 loads and extrapolating from that, but always subtracting a couple of grains to start at a safe pressure. I considered 6.5 SAUM but decided I wanted a standard bolt face. If the capacities are that close, I'll definitely use the data. Do you have any numbers for case...
So I went for it. Here's the evidence. 6.5-280ai with a 144gr Berger LR Hybrid on the left, factory Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor 147 ELD-M on the right. The process so far has been super smooth. The only hiccup so far has been the fact that my 3-way cutter/deburr/chamfer tool is leaving a slight burr...
I have levels on my rifles. Mostly for eliminating variables while sighting in or verifying data. I just don't bother taking them off once they're on. Once I'm shooting "for real", the bubble level isn't even looked at. No reason to break my position on the rifle. I don't think they're...
Does anyone have experience with this cartridge? It seems like an easy way to get to (what is basically) a 6.5-06AI.... within a few thousandths and a grain or two or capacity. Since 280ai factory brass is available, it seems easier than bumping or fireforming .30-06, .25-06 or .270 brass...
Quick plug for anyone interested: Aftermarket triggers. I put an 8oz Jard on my 6mm pictured above, and holy cow it's awesome. 8oz is a little light for most applications, but I'm trying to shoot free-recoil PRS style...and it seems most pros have their triggers right around that same weight...
Just did some reading on it....first time I've heard of the change (oddly enough). And I was considering a 280AI for precisely this reason. Looks like Remington had to go and screw up a good thing again.
