.260 Remington Build by Southwest Precision - UPDATE: Load Development

Thank you for the offer and I may take you up on both. At this time though I really don't have the space, time or money to invest in it like I really want to do. I have quite a lot of Cor-Bon Match 139gr Scenar rounds for target shooting that came loaded in Lapua brass. My plan is once I go...

.260 Remington Build by Southwest Precision - UPDATE: Load Development

So after deciding to use the HSM ammo loaded with Berger 140gr VLDH bullets, it looks like HSM is having supply issues and has indefinitely suspended production of the ammo. I really want to use the Berger 140gr VLDH bullet so I had to figure out another way to get this bullet in a round without...

Hunting & Fishing Do I really need a .300 Win Mag or will .30-06 be fine?

Curt, I responded to your PM. Thanks. My recoil tolerance is pretty good. I shoot a 50 BMG offhand, .45-70 lever action with 405gr Grizzly loads, and 12ga slugs from my semi-auto...

Hunting & Fishing Do I really need a .300 Win Mag or will .30-06 be fine?

Thanks guys for the comments so far. I will be using my Swarovski range finder so I should be able to come up with the proper range. I just didn't know if the 2000 ft.lbs of energy (achieved with all the loads at 500 yards) would be enough for all the game animals I plan on hunting. Agreed that...

Hunting & Fishing Do I really need a .300 Win Mag or will .30-06 be fine?

Guys, I need some help picking out the caliber of a new hunting rifle. I think I've narrowed it down to either .300 Win Mag or .30-06 and need your help persuading me one way or the other. First I'll give a little background and planned use: - I will be doing all my hunting between 9,000 and...

    Light 50 BMG?

I think you're right with the Safety Harbor. I have a 22" barreled upper on a lower that I built and the whole thing comes in at around 18lbs with scope. As for recoil, my Marlin 1895 lever action in .45-70 or 12 ga slug gun kick way worse. However, the concussion is what does you in for...

3 Round Magazine Solution for AICS Mag Equipped Rifles

I just gave this a try and it really didn't work. I had to load rounds halfway into the chamber and then back them into the magazine with tricky fingers. I then tried the same thing with the AICS and it was the same method. So no improvement there.

Long range elk caliber in a s/a?

I hunt elk with a .260 Remington at around 10,000ft elevation. At this altitude you get the following with factory loaded ammo: And here's a .30-06 for comparison (same elevation):

3 Round Magazine Solution for AICS Mag Equipped Rifles

Hey everyone! After a recent hunting trip I decided to knock some weight (and size) off my custom .260 Rem chambered rifle and one of the areas I identified was the magazine. I was having a little trouble getting my rifle to fit in the scabbard in my pack due to it hanging up on the 5 round AICS...

.260 Remington Build by Southwest Precision - UPDATE: Load Development

I was able to get out this morning and do a sort of practice run for a hunting scenario: - I set up a target out far - Walked back until it was out of sight - Then with my pack on and carrying my gun I came out of the treeline - Put the pack on the ground and put the rifle on top - I...

How would YOU build this rifle!?! Have fun.

BigCheese, I had very similar requirements to you and ended up building my rifle into the following: - Remington 700 SA RH blueprinted/trued by SWP - Krieger SS cut rifled barrel, 22” finished length, Heavy Palma contour, 1:9 twist, target crown (twist rate chosen due to my extreme...
