    Tab Gear Sling for Hunting

I want a leather sling that functions like the Tab. It doesn't appear that the Murray does that. I hauled that thing around for 12 hours today and it sucked--it just slips around. I'll try the shoegoo in the meantime. Thanks for that tip Charlie.

    Tab Gear Sling for Hunting

Problem with that is that you have a large pack on your back when big game hunting.

Hunting & Fishing Using a 308 AR for elk, deer, speed goats, etc, this year

Dumb question: Why shoot a light bullet for elk? Forgive me as I don't know much about AR's but are you limited to lighter grain bullets with them? I'd use at least a 180 if not a 200 on elk.

    Tab Gear Sling for Hunting

So I took my newly finished .308 on a pretty good boar hunt this weekend. The last thing I did to this rifle was to take my TAB Gear Sling off my other rifle and throw it on here, since I love shooting with it. Problem is, those slings are made from such slippery webbing that the thing...

    Need to replace my Danners

Just got my first pair of Crispi boots. Used them on a pretty big boar hunt this weekend and so far, they are everything they are hyped up to be--and they ain't cheap. I got the Idaho GTX because I mainly archery hunt in warmer temps. Check them here: http://www.crispiusa.com/index.php

    Fieldcraft Firestarters

I take a bic lighter but every bag I own, from my hunting pack to my camping pack to my little upland vest also has a magnesium/flint kit. So light, simple and fool proof.

    Recommend a Tikka T3

Having shot both, I chose a Savage (obviously). Tikkas are AWESOME mountain hunting rifles and everything about them is unbelievable relative to the price. That said, for the same amount you can buy a Savage 10 that would make a much more enjoyable range rifle.

    Fieldcraft Cooking in the field

Awesome thread. And having spent considerable time camping in alpine environments, I heartily agree with 45.308 that sleeping the right clothing will always surpass sleeping naked. Take your Carhardts or other stiff, restrictive layers and keep it flexible and insulating. I often use the...

Fieldcraft Determining north from plants, other than compass roses

Depending on where you are, there are different rules. In the Pacific NW, the moss thing is really easy. Here in the mountains, south slopes are almost always considerably barren where as the northern aspects are timbered. In the winter, there will be way more snow on the Northern aspects...

Hunting & Fishing Spring Turkey 2014

So I have an opportunity to do a eastern tour that coincides with turkey season. I'd like to start in GA and work my way north through the Carolina's and all the way up to NH, then start heading West all the way across to MN. My question: Does anyone know of any solid resources to put this...

    Best Entry Rifle Is...

....Savage 10 in 308 with fluted, threaded bull barrell. I had an older but nice Leopold hunting scope on Weavers that I added until I get a nicer optic. I guess I'm no longer really a beginner but not an expert by any stretch. All I know is this rifle allows me to really put all the...

Hunting & Fishing Anyone turkey/duck hunting with Benelli SBE II or new Browing A5?

My SB1 is now 14 years old....14 seasons of 30 or more duck hunting days, thousands of ducks and some turkey hunting on the side and I can count the number of times it jammed on one hand. You simply cannot buy nor build a better hunting shotgun than a Benelli.
