Gunsmithing Best 700 trigger for field and range?

I put a Timney 510 trigger on my 700 instead of shipping the rifle back to Remington for their recall. The Timney came with a pull weight of 3 lbs, which is fine for me. That Huber 2 stage trigger looks great; most of my shooting has been done on service rifles and they all have two stage...

Here is what I got to reload 308, need input

You'll need a good lubricant for sizing; you can't go wrong with Forster, but I'm sure there are other lubricants as well. Having a case gage such as those made by Wilson and others will prove invaluable for setting up your sizing die and checking your work as you go.

    Resize loaded ammo ?

There is just so much that is unknown about loaded ammo that it is all but impossible to make an informed decision. It's a crap shoot at best; if successful, all you can say for sure is that you got away with sizing those particular rounds. Keep in mind that the chamber in a rifle is designed to...

    Brass?

I bought some PPU white box 308 rounds and prepped the cases after shooting them. The cases seem to be very close to LC LR brass in thickness and hardness. I've not reloading any, though, so I don't have a handle on life expectancy.

    Rifle Case/Bag Recommendation Needed

I have two rifle bags from Creedmore Sports: a standard rifle case for my Rem 700 with a 24" barrel and the Deluxe case for my M1A. Both are very nice cases, but I carry mine in the back of an SUV, not in the bed of a pickup truck. Creedmoor Soft Cases - Gun Cases | Creedmoor Sports

Issue with Redding Bushing Dies - Too Long

See my post below for more info. Basically, we're using conflicting terms when we say headspace. The actual headspace is the distance from the bottom of the case to the face of the bolt. That's headspace and we generally want that number to be around 0.003" or so. When you shave the bottom of...

Issue with Redding Bushing Dies - Too Long

It's a very confusing terminology thing. There are two commonly used headspace measurements: first is the case headspace and the second is the chamber headspace. The true headspace is the distance from the bottom (head) of the case to the face of the bolt when the case is fully inserted into the...

Issue with Redding Bushing Dies - Too Long

Apparently, the die under poor lube conditions, grips the case walls too tightly and will actually pull (not push) the case shoulder up as the case is withdrawn from the die. Since switching to Forsters lube, all of my cases, every single one, has sized properly with a single pass of the die...

Issue with Redding Bushing Dies - Too Long

You might try to increase the amount of lube or switch to another lube altogether. I had the same problem when I first started reloading; I bought another die and the problem persisted, bought a third die and still had the problem. I went through the cam-over adjustments when setting the dies...

Sizing machine gun brass- what worked for me

It cleans as well as the Imperial Wax; both leave a film behind so I tumble. My case preparation is done in two separate steps with the actual loading done on its own. My goal is have all my cases brought back to like new conditions after each loading. First phase: (home from the range)...

    Remington 700 5R .308 milspec HORRIBLE ACCURACY!!!!!

My 5R will shoot 65% of 5 shot groups under 1 MOA with 10% under 1/2 MOA. No groups are over 1.5 MOA. It likes Nosler 168 CC over 41.6 grains of IMR 4064 in Winchester commercial brass FL sized with Forsters' NM die. Federal 210M primers start things off. I use a cheap Nikon Buckmatser 6-18 x...

< $1500 "just works" bolt action

Don't overlook the 308 Rem 700 Milspec with SS 5R barrel. Comes with HS Precision stock, optional threaded barrel; shoots better than 1 MOA out of the box. It looks good, feels good, shoots good and Less than $1200.

Sizing machine gun brass- what worked for me

I was struggling through 1000 cases of 308 LC NATO (machine gun) brass using Imperial Wax when Forsters sent me a sample of their high pressure lube. What a difference it made. I went from double sizing (to avoid stuck cases) to single stroke sizing with no more effort than sizing brand new...

    Resize loaded ammo ?

Milo: "One gunsmith, with the same reamer could chamber 4 barrels in a single day and never match a single one in headspace." As long as all those chambers meet SAAMI standards, a headspace gage ensures that your rounds will fit all of those chambers and the chamber of the new rifle you just...

    SB 308 die overworks brass?

Chris: "No, it's not because my pressure was too low, it's because I shrank the case bodies down well below their ability to expand the distance needed to seal off the chamber." The SB die differs from a standard FL die only in the lower 1/2 inch (the base) or so of the case. That is, the SB...

    Resize loaded ammo ?

To paraphrase Secretary of State Don Rumsfeld: There are things I know, there are things I know that I don’t know and then there are things I don’t know that I don’t know. To that list I will add that I’ve discovered over the years things that I knew that just weren’t so. When dealing with...

    Help with powder option?

"...I was going to grab a pound or two online..." The hazmat fee will cost about the same as a pound of powder, so buy as much as you can so spread the cost out.

How long will reloads last in storage?

I've noticed that all military loads seal the primer and many seal the neck/bullet as well. This might be done to ensure mechanical strength, but I'm willing to bet that it helps long term storage under adverse conditions. Keeping cartridges cool and dry is the first step. If I were loading...

    Wobbly pilot in case trimmer

The Wilson case trimmer uses a sleeve that ensures that the case mouth is trimmed square to the case walls as well as known distance to the base of the case. Giraud (I don't have one) cuts the mouth square to the case shoulder and an unknown distance to base case, so all cases must be sized...
