    30 Cal/168 SMK's

Years ago, when I competed in High Power, I used Sierra 168's. My COAL varied up to .030". An old buck told me that Sierra made 168's on 3 different machines and mixed them. He told me to segregate by base to ogive length if it really bothered me. With a .005" window, I then separated my bullets...

    .308 dies out of spec???

Re: .308 dies out of spec??? Should you try to resize the necks without the decapping stem installed, you might find them too small. Instead, why not try backing out the decapper until it resizes the necks without depriming.

Incredible 30-06 loads??? real or BS

Re: Incredible 30-06 loads??? real or BS I can't comment on 30-06 loads but I had A steyr SSG in .308 that I competed in High Power with. I worked up 168's to 3000 fps. I could still use the brass for several more reloads. Bolt lift was normal. It pretty much does depend on the barrel etc...

Re: BEYOND 1000 yards is the name of this forum Shit! I forgot. I once shot up a hooch beyond tracer burn out. Does that qualify?

BEYOND 1000 yards is the name of this forum

Re: BEYOND 1000 yards is the name of this forum Some of us are wallowing in Mittyish anticipation. Some of us need to learn what's what so we can be gonnabees. Some of us are true, by God, dyed in the wool more than 1000 yard shooters who realize that if the ranks are to grow, they must put...

Powder for 408 CHEYTAC? Also reloading questions

Re: IMR 4198 for 408 CHEYTAC? Also reloading questions If your testing range is 20 yards, I suggest trying Blue Dot. It's quite a bit slower than Bullseye. You are shitting us, right?

    Older Reloading Manuals

Re: Older Reloading Manuals There are quite a few good reasons for this. One is, as you suggested, liability issues. But there is also awareness of older firearms that was sometimes missing before. There is the scientific end in that PSI versus CUP tends to give more accurate results and the...

    303 Savage

Re: 303 Savage Prvi Partizan is offered in the recent Graf flyer. It's possible to modify 220 Swift brass though the rim will be undersized. Also, the barrels can be either .308 or .311.

    bipods

I'd like to get a bipod that is sturdier than the Harris I had. I'm not likely to shoot competition anytime soon just shooting to relax. The rifle does not want a $1600 bipod. Are there different grade Harris bipods? Are there other brands that are better but at a reasonable price? My position...

Lapua 308 brass weight distribution (pic)

Re: Lapua 308 brass weight distribution (pic) You should definitely trim before you weight sort. Why that .010" variation in length could easily introduce a 2 or 3 tenths variation in weight.

    GMM

By and large, GMM is noted for two things- great accuracy and soft brass. Does anyone know of any experiments or have any thoughts if the two are related?

    Bullet Test Pic added !!!!

Re: Bullet Test Calipers aren't accurate to .001". In addition, how are you calibrating yours? Do you have a gage block? In addition, bullets can have quite a range of diameters. SAMMI specs. allow for a 30 caliber bullet to range from .306" to .309".

    bump the shoulder .002???

Re: bump the shoulder .002??? I've had to send back several dies over the years to RCBS. Not to pick on them but that's all I used to use. At least in the past, they used to use several reamers to produce a finished die. Now whenever I buy new dies it will be Redding. But every manufacturer...

Crazy idea for using different powders

Re: Crazy idea for using different powders Not only would you be wasting primers but bullets too. And for what? To hear a bang? Buy a .22. PS You might be wasting body parts if you get to the point where you can cycle the action. An obstructed bore is a strong possibility.

    cheap ass .223 bullets?

Re: cheap ass .223 bullets? Until the buying frenzy ends I'd say you are SOL. On the other hand, my gunshop has a bargain section and you'd be amazed at what shows up. I recently bought bricks of primers for $15. And thousands of pull down 308's at an average of under 8cents each. And...

1st try at making 260 brass

Re: !st try at making 260 brass He might be asking why you felt it necessary to anneal the brass. If it was unfired, there would be no need to anneal. If it had been fired in a normal chamber you'd be close to size already. Even in a TNT, you are only talking about .020" or so.

Issue with primer seating, need HELP!

Re: Issue with primer seating, need HELP! The Dillon tool cares not one wit about differences in "thickness" of brass. You have 3/16ths+ to muck around with. Now if you don't follow instructions, you could go way too deep and distort the brass at an unusual expenditure of energy. In other...

Once fired LC Split Necks 556

Re: Once fired LC Split Necks 556 Not only do they look like the OAL is all over the place but what is that circumferential ring close to the case mouth? On most once fired military brass that has this, once you size and trim to the correct OAL, you'd never see this. And, no, it is not...

    removal of bullet sealant

I have a quantity of de-milled 30-06 brass. When I resized four or five there was black stuff all over my decapping pin which I'll assume is bullet sealant. How do I easily remove this?
