New to Sniper's Hide- and I just picked up a Remmy 700 5R Milspec .308

Like what was posted earlier, you should probably SKIP the BDC reticles. I think Boone and Crocket reticles are BDC also. BDCs are only accurate for one projectile traveling at a certain velocity in a certain atmosphere. The BDC is not completely useless, it is just more of an estimate than a...

    Which rifle?

My late great uncle killed a black bear with a .410 with bird shot, that does not mean that it is the idea choice for that application? Notice how every SINGLE round you mention has a whole lot flatter trajectory than the .308? They are all a whole lot more forgiving of a misjudged range...

    Lightweight Supressed rifle help

OP didn't say if he hand an AR. But the .300 BLK is just a versatile, if not more so.

    Lightweight Supressed rifle help

On paper the .300 BLK has better ballistics than the 5.56/.223. People get the 5.56 out to 500yds all the time. I think the .300 BLK will easily go to 500yds.

So is THIS what yall ment by Remington quality now days? HELP

If its not the scope (you said you had it on a LaRue) It is not the rings or base loose. The action screws are torqued properly. The barrel isn't contacting the stock. The crown isn't damaged. And you are sure it isn't the ammo, or the shooter. Then I would send it back. Somebody probably just...

Did I screw up and buy the wrong R700?

The R700 action is one of the most versatile action around. Many of the best gunsmiths in the US are highly familiar with the 700 platform. If a gunsmith is good enough for me to take my firearm to, he/she most likely can (and will) work wonders on the 700. Many specialize in 700 type actions...

    Which rifle?

You took an elk with an arrow at medium to long range? The .270 and the 30-06 both pack a whole lot more power than the .308. I would take either of them hunting elk at distance. The .308 with many "hunting" bullets is losing a bunch of steam at "medium" ranges and lacks a lot of punch at...

Did I screw up and buy the wrong R700?

If I am not mistaken, it is the same receiver. I have taken one out of the stock and didn't notice any difference, but I wasn't looking for a difference. I think you could just buy any long action stock and it will fit your receiver. If not, a qualified gunsmith should be able to make it work...

    Which rifle?

I would look past the .308 if you want to hunt elk.

    New rifle

Nikon makes, in my opinion, a good optic. They are better suited for hunting than LR shooting though. Mine tracked reliably when I sighted it in, but I don't know about the long term reliability of the tracking. In a hunting scope, I just zero at 200 and leave it there. With a long range...

    Newbie needs some advice

I have heard nothing but good reviews on the SWFA Super Sniper scopes. They are relatively inexpensive.

Newbie looking for adivce for rifle purchase

You shouldn't need much. You can find stocks for them, barrels have to be made for each rifle anyways and they already have good triggers.

    Opinion on rifle

@ OP, You can always just buy a .308 barrel for your rifle and have the ability to use two cartridges. Savages are apparently easy to headspace. You can go from .308 to .30-06 or vice versa in an evening.

    Opinion on rifle

Why would anyone want to switch from the 30-06 to the .308? Because in PLENTY of circumstances, it makes sense. What if OP doesn't or can't take advantage of the strengths of the .30-06? Then is is is ALL disadvantages. It'll have more recoil, the ammo would be more expensive to buy, more...

    First precision bolt gun

    1. I have HEARD that the Jewell triggers are very good triggers when it comes to pull weight and the break but that they are more suited for bench rest than hunting/tactical. 2. Barrel contour is the way the barrel is shaped. You have it all the way from the "pencil" barrel contour all the way...

    First precision bolt gun

The twist rate stabilizes a different weight of bullet. 1-10 will reliably stabilize bullets in the 200gr range. This is about the heaviest bullet the .308 will push and still be magazine friendly. The 1-12 is common but not idea for LR shooting as it cannot reliably stabilize the "better"...
