Just a quick question. I have started suffering from the 147 eldm bullet separation issue and I’m looking to change bullets. Do the 140’s have the same issue? If so I’m looking at moving to Sierra but does anyone else have recommendations for a high b.c. 6.5 bullet? Nosler rdf’s are our as my Gun can’t group them to save it’s life.

Berger and JLK are also good.

I have not seen any blow ups in my 1:8 twist 5R barrels from Bartlein, X-Caliber, Masterpiece and Obermeyer, nor my Criterion or Remington factory 1:8's. All of these are chambered in either 6.5x47L or 6.5 Creedmoor at velocities between 2650-2830fps with the 140's... but then again, I shoot the 147's also 2700-2780fps and have never seen one fail to make it to 1k at my range.

It’s weird. It seems like it’s a scattered problem as to who’s having the issues and whose not. I’m shooting a savage 10 1/8T 24” barrel. Handloads with lapua srp brass 147 eldm’s seated to .015 off the lands using 42.2gr H4350 with velocity average of 2753 and every now and again it will keyhole at 100 or just separate in some weird way to make C shaped cut patterns like it’s tumbling like crazy. It’s like 1-3 out of every 50 ish but in the middle of a match it cost me quite a few points especially on the know your limits stage where it’s first miss gets ya a zero.

Yeah, I wouldn't put up with that either at a match. I'd look at the Sierra, Berger or JLK. I have not shot the 142's in a long while but I have shot the 140 Berger Hybrids quite a bit in 6.5... no complaints other than price and availability when Berger was moving a few months back. My experience with JLK has been great but limited to .308 and .224 calibers.

Your experience with Nolser mirrors mine, BTW.

I've shot around 1100 140 ELDs and prolly 300-400 147 ELDs this year. So far, I've had ZERO problems. With the exception of the about 100 147s from my Tikka CTR that are going 2650, the rest have been over 2900fps from an 8 twist 30" Benchmark. All mine were also purchased quite a while ago in bulk, so maybe its newer lot#s having the issues.

Caliber?
What's your load?
Lot numbers?

If that was for me..

Desert Tech 6.5 CM w/TS Customs 30"bbl and Tikka CTR 6.5 CM 20" stock bbl.
42.5gr H4350 both 140 and 147. Prime/Norma brass Br-2 Primers.
42.4-42.6 RE16 147 and 140 respectively, Same brass and primers.

Don't have Lot#s handy at the moment.

EDIT: I do have one... the 147s are Lot #2170610

Sorry that was for the o.p. but good info. Thanks.
Seen a couple threads on the 147 and trying to find common ground on them.
From what I have seen it's a higher round count barrel.
I've shot few 147 in two 6.5 Creedmoor with no problems.

147's from my 24" Bartlein 5R doing 2710 .2 - .4 moa and never a janky one. Apparently it happens with some rough bores, though. Maybe they are thinner jacketed and just can't take it. The ones I've seen getting sideways and hitting in pieces were from a Savage 10. Would have liked to borescoped that one.

I have been shooting the 140 ELDs since they came out and never an issue in 3 different Creedmoor barrels. That said it has been the same for the 147s as well in the rifles. If the 147s aren't working for you then try the 140 ELDs.

Your Savage have a brake on it?

Caliber is 6.5 creedmoor. Load is lapua srp brass cci br4 primers 42.2 gr H4350 seated .015 off the lands. Went all the way to 43.5 grains during load development before I started seeing slight pressure signs. Muzzle velocity of the 42.2 is 2753 average off a magneetospeed v3. Lot numbers I’ll have to see when I get home if I still have the boxes
